A/N: Smut ahead, guys, please be warned.
It was the rainy season, the rain had been relentless, it had been pouring for days. One side of the city was drowned and helpless, and the other side was having slow business days. It was evening, and the rain had made everything more gloomy than usual, the only thing that was making Pete feel alive was the hot and strong coffee in his hands. He took each sip as slowly as he could, sitting in the cozy cafe at the intersection, and watching the rain pour down on the now empty road, somehow making him feel like the day wasn't completely wasted. It was his fourth day in the city, but he couldn't see much of it because of the rain. Even all his business meetings got pushed to later indefinitely. There was a nagging feeling in the back of his head about his work, making him restless, not letting him accept that it had been forever since he had slow days like these.
As he was full in his head, a moving figure on the road caught his attention. A man, fair-skinned and of good build, properly in his late twenties, was walking on the street, no umbrella, drenched to the bone. Though drenched, he was walking slowly, as if he was basking in the afternoon sun of winter, as if he was perfectly normal and calm. Before he realised, Pete found himself picking up his umbrella and walking towards the drenched man.
As the Rain suddenly stopped pouring onto him, the man shook his head, getting rid of the droplets covering his eyes, and looked up only to smile.
He then looked at Pete... "Oh, why bother? I am already drenched, aren't I?" He said, pushing the umbrella more towards Pete.
"Well, I saw you go through here yesterday, too, walking in the rain," Pete pointed out.
"Hmm, Ya, I go through here almost every day," The man answered nonchalantly
"You live nearby?" Pete asked
"I guess," The man shrugged
"Do you like walking in the rain?"
"Not really"
"Then why don't you carry an umbrella?"
"Why? Do I look that bad wet?" Kao chucled
"No, no, I mean," Pete panicked, finding himself in a weird situation
Kao kept smiling. "Yesterday, I planned on taking the umbrella, but I forgot it on my way out. Today, the rain had stopped when I started at home, but it soon started pouring. So it's not that I couldn't afford the umbrella, don't worry."
"Then, why didn't you stop somewhere or buy an umbrella on the way? I am sorry about all the questions. I guess I was just bored and got curious. It's okay if you don't want to answer." Pete looked away.
"It's fine, I was bored too, walking alone," The man replied.... "Also, there is nothing to be curious you know, I just think that as long as you are sure you won't fall sick, it isn't a big deal to walk in the rain, we have to get our clothes wet to wash them anyway, don't we?"
Pete kept walking, thinking as he heard those words.
The man continued... "Compared to all the things we face in our lives, this is nothing, don't you think?, It's just pure water, a natural shower. Why would I run from it?, Sure, it feels uncomfortable, but for like a second, once you get used to it, you will realise that it's not that inconvenient at all. A lot of us don't realise that we are running from new things only because we love our comfort zones too much."
Pete still looked straight at pouring rain as he spoke... "You are interesting, Mr..."
"Kao, you can call me Kao, and you are?"
"Oh, how rude of me? I am Pete. I run a small business up in North"
"North ha? So you don't live here?"
