It was late in the morning, Grandma had visited the temple and completed her breakfast, but Pete and Kao were fast asleep. Unwilling to bare the silence in the house despite having guests, Grandma barged into Kao's room annoyed... "Will you guys wake up already? This is exactly why I warned you guys to go to bed early"
Pete who was cuddling Kao lazily opened his eyes while Kao seemed unbothered. It took Pete a few minutes to grasp the situation, but once he did he sat right up... "Grandma"
"How lazy should you be to be asleep even at this hour? The Sun is above the head" she kept rambling away her disappointment.
Instead of answering her, Pete kept thanking god that Grandma didn't realize they were cuddling and mentally scolding himself for not locking the door. But when he turned to look at Kao, who was sleeping unwavering, he couldn't help but appreciate his cuteness.
"Damn, I should have woken up early so I could have appreciated this sleeping beauty" He mumbled
"What? What did you say?" Grandma walked closer
"No, Nothing Grandma" Pete got off the bed and smiled at her.... "I was just saying my morning prayers"
"Hmmm, Do you think God would be wandering around to listen to your prayers at this hour" She seemed to be very particular about schedules, Pete had already understood that.
Pete didn't drop his smile... "Grandma" He tried to gently lead her out of the room... "Maybe because of the change in weather Kao suddenly caught a cold last night and couldn't sleep for a long time, How about letting him sleep for a while"
"A Cold?" She wondered... "Hmmm, I don't remember bringing him up to be so frail, Who gets bothered by a cold?"
Pete felt caught but before he could embarrass himself anymore Grandma added... "Fine, All kinds of diseases are going around these days, It was all his fault for going out yesterday, Let me make him some lemon pepper tea, Go wake him up and wash up"
Pete dropped his shoulders nodding. As Grandma headed to the kitchen he walked back to Kao, Kao was sleeping so peacefully, that Pete felt like kissing his forehead and soothing him deeper into sleep instead of waking him up. He simply stood there struggling to decide whether to listen to his heart or respect Grandma's words until suddenly his conscience crept in and reminded him... "You are not allowed to kiss him yet". Pete frowned as if he was being pinched hard. And with no choice he called for Kao.
"Kao, Kao, It's time to wake up, Grand Ma is angry that we are still in bed..." He shook Kao a little.
Kao resisted in his sleep with a moan... "Ummmmmm... Just a minute Pete"
"No, Kao, I am afraid she might beat you up if you don't wake up now" Pete tried again.
Kao frowned irritated and pulled Pete onto the bed, hugging him back as if to make him shut up.
Pete took a deep breath... "Kao, If you don't wake up, I will end up kissing you"
Kao's lips smiled and his eyes slowly opened... "Is that a threat?"
But Pete couldn't move, he couldn't answer, He couldn't even blink, Looking at that fresh face of Kao, he barely remembered his own name. Pete's expression made Kao freeze too and he could barely mumble... "Pete"
"Please wake up" Pete requested
Kao took a deep breath and pulled away getting up.
A few weeks passed, and all of Pete's friends and Kao's friends could tell they were dating as they always stuck together except when they were attending their lectures. Picking up Kao and driving back home with Kao has become Pete's routine. Even after returning from college, Pete would drag Kao to his in-house gym and they would work out together, and once they were done working out, Kao would wait for Pete to take a shower and walk him home, as a result, Pete would always end up having dinner at Kao's.
