(I'm so sorry, this is like, the shortest chapter ever. It was supposed to be at the end of the last chapter, but I ran out of time yesterday, and then today I've just not been feeling well. But there will be a few very long chapters after this.)

When Y/n had gotten to her room, she managed to take a sigh of relief, for once feeling comfortable this day. It was quite a safe feeling, being in her own space where there were no snakes scurrying around.
She put down Lepus on the floor, letting the cat explore the room on her own. She looked around the room, completely untouched and unrenovated. Maybe Rhian wanted her to feel like she lived in the dirt, that she was beneath him. But she was quite happy with the lack of change. But then she saw Orion's old sitting stick, still hanging from the ceiling. Like he had never been gone.
Y/n sighed and laid down in bed, almost tempted to fall asleep then and there. The day had been exhausting with the amount of distress she'd felt. Why could she never catch a break? She felt herself close her eyes just for a second, but she had trouble opening them up again. But the opened quickly when she felt something strange on her body. Her eyes quickly opened as she sat up, trying to find if it was Lepus or something else who touched her. But Lepus was currently playing with her curtains, and she saw nothing else. But then she looked down at her own body—
The dress had changed. Somehow, it had transformed into a white nightgown, covering her just as much as the dress originally did.
"What the?!" she said, standing up. She had no idea how the dress had just suddenly transformed. Was it the doing of Japeth or Rhian? Surely not, right? If it was, why wouldn't they just have changed her dress at the dinner. But how else did it then do it?"Okay, I seriously need to find a plan to get out of here," she mumbled, picking up Lepus again, looking into her big, round eyes. "Okay girl, I might need you to send a message for me, you think you can do that?"
The cat didn't really seem to understand a thing, it just blinked at her contently. Then the cat started to nibble at her sleeve.
"Okay, maybe you're not the sharpest knife," Y/n said. "Guess that plan's a fluke. I'll need to find another way to send a message." Y/n let go of Lepus again, who went back to playing with the curtain. She walked up to her own window and looked out at the star filled sky, watching constellations. But in the corner of her eye couldn't avoid the glow from Lionsmane's first tale. The tale she had written. She felt so awful that she had played right into his hand, self sabotaging herself and strengthening him. But she could use it to her advantage, hopefully, maybe. She just needed to carry hope that neither Rhian nor Japeth would realize what she'd be doing, but that Agatha understood. But Agatha was smart, surely she would...Y/n felt anxiety crawl up her back, making her entire body shiver. "I need fresh air," she said. She picked up her cat and dropped her off on the bed. "I'll be back soon little guy." She looked around the room, finding an old sewing kit, and used a nail to pry off the ring. She knew it would be useless to keep it off, they would just force it on her finger again, and make it harder and harder for her to take it off. Just like trying to escape all on her own, it was just dumb and would fail. But that didn't mean she would submit and not use magic. What they won't know won't hurt them.
She used a spell to unlock her own door, she already could guess that they'd locked her inside. She opened it carefully and looked around. Empty, at least for now. She quickly took her chance and sneaked out, making her way towards the entry hall. The castle had been completely changed now, Lion stuff and patterns everywhere. It was narcissistic, and all of it looked cheap when you looked closer. Pretty and perfect from far away, but cheap and tacky from far away. How fitting...
Y/n froze when she heard voices in the distance."Did ye see tha' dress she wore?" a pirate said.
She slowly inched closer and saw light coming from a door just opened a crack, she could smell booze and cigar smoke.
"Yeah, stupidest thin' I've seen," another said.
"I thought it was quite pretty," a third said. "Hugged her body so well you could see every curve."
"Isn't she little Warts girl?" a different one asked.
"Yeah it is," the first one said. "Don't know how he got such a gal."
"Almost tempted to take her down to the dungeon and kiss 'er as he watches," the third said.
"I 'eard that Rhian decided to take little Wart out of there," the second said. "He's her steward."
"Guess that means we can mess with him a bit," the fourth laughed. "How much gold for me to beat him up a little?"
Y/n had become so mad at their talking that she used a spell to shoot in a fire cracker from under the door and hurried away before it exploded in their faces.-
She finally managed to get outside, using some sleeping spells to get past some of the guards, and could take a breath of fresh air. She couldn't help but giggle as she got outside, collapsing on the ground. In some strange way, she felt free being outside, even if it couldn't be further from the case. She was still enclosed by the castle's walls, but maybe the fact she snuck out and defied what she was supposed to do made her feel so free.
She rolled around in the grass a bit, just giggling and smiling, before she calmed down a bit again. She sat back up, hair a mess and nightgown filled with grass stains, but she felt happy. She'd always liked nature, the feel of the air around her, and her feet against the grass. She doesn't think she could ever be happy locked away inside forever. She'd die out of misery.
But that's when she saw him. sitting out there on a bench, watching the tiny waterpools with a newly installed Lion fountain.
Japeth.
At hers she felt her body freeze, her lungs closing up and muscles tensing. What if he'd see her? What would he do to her? Would he attack her for everything she said? Would she punish one of her friends because she's outside in the middle of the night. But then she thought more of it. If she wanted to build a false loyalty, a false trust. She couldn't do it for just one brother, she needed to fool both...She walked up right to him, sitting down on the same bench, as far away as she could, watching the stars reflect in the water. She caught Japeth flinching for just a second when she sat down, before he grimaced.
"Shouldn't you be in bed?" He questioned.
"I decided I needed some fresh air," Y/n said, looking at him. "But I'm quite sorry I snuck out for it. I just couldn't keep being confined inside. I've never been an inside person."
He looked at her for a moment, before just rolling his eyes. "Whatever, I don't care," he said, looking back at the water. "... But I guess my brother doesn't have to know you're out here..."Y/n looked over at him, giving him a surprised look. Maybe Rhian had been right when he said Japeth seemed to have some sort of soft spot for her somewhere inside, she thought. Either that or the tenderness of the night made him calmer. But there was something Y/n could see in his eyes, guilt. He was guilty over something he'd done to her. At first, she thought it could have been the murder of Orion, but that didn't feel right. Japeth had killed so many people, why would he be guilty over one bird. It must be something, something else he'd done to her. The question was, what had he done? "Thank you," she said, looking away again.
Y/n fidgeted with her hands, not sure what to say and do, watching the stars ripple in the water. But the stars at least gave her an idea of a topic.
"You're a sorcerer, aren't you?" Y/n asked him. "I can tell Rhian isn't one, but you're one, I think at least."
"How did you figure?" he asked, sounding a bit sarcastic, like it was quite obvious, like she was stupid for even asking.
"Well, you're quite talented," she said. "You really challenged me a lot. But to be honest, it was pretty fun. Who taught you?"
Y/n caught a change in his face. He was receptive to compliments. Likely, he was probably affection starved. Even just by intuition, Y/n could have guessed Rhian was the golden child, the one who got all the praise and affection, otherwise he wouldn't have such an ego."I taught myself when I was at school," he said. "Managed to dig out some old books in the Foxwood library about magic. Mostly Evil spells however."
"Darn, I'm really awful at those," Y/n laughed. "That's too bad. It could have been fun if you taught me some."
Japeth blinked for a few moments. "You would have wanted me to teach you spells?" he asked.
"Only if you wanted," Y/n said. "But, you're really talented. I think you would have been a good teacher."
"Thanks..." Japeth simply said."Hey, what did you use your wizard's wish for?" Y/n asked, tilting her head.
His face looked very guilty now, avoiding her eyes completely. He sighed, and stood up. "I'm sorry," he simply said, before walking off.
Y/n felt quite confused, but she felt more curious than ever. She needed to figure out what Japeth used his wish for.
