Five Tedroses jumped over the gatehouse wall, throttling for the Woods beyond the castle.

"Hurry!" the real Tedros panted, dragging one of his clones by the leash she had been forced to wear, hurrying past the gatehouse while the guards were still busy.
Y/n barely had to walk, because Tedros was dragging her along as Sophie, Agatha, and Hort practically carried her along. But this was probably for the best as tears streamed down her face. She clutched Lepus, trying her best to not lose her cat. She felt Agatha's bag with Dovey's crystal ball bang against her hip, over and over, swinging along as they ran. Blood and welts streaked their bare chests, though her prince looked far worse than the rest of them.

All at once, the spell broke and she melted back into her own body, the white dress forming once more, the itch coming back. So did Agatha, Sophie, and Hort, all back to their original states.
But it didn't matter, the emotions were still the same.
"Dovey...," she choked. "She's... She's..."
"Shh, shh, shh," Sophie said, trying to sooth her, but tears were streaming down her own face. "We know. It's okay, Darling. We'll avenge her." "If we even survive," Hort huffed, shedding a few tears himself.

They pulled her into the Woods, past the first line of trees, raining waves of red and yellow leaves. She could hear their heavy grunts and panting, every part of their bodies wrecked. The only solace was that they'd left Rhian in a far worse state. Brambles hooked onto her dress, though the dress seemed to recover the holes itself. What is even in this dress? Y/n questioned.

Alarm bells pealed from Camelot's belfry, followed by a stampede of hooves.
"Run faster!" Tedros barked, cheeks blotched red.
"Don't you think we're trying!" Hort asked. "We're doing the heavy lifting back here!"
"Stop talking and just run!" Agatha scolded.
"I could just run myself," Y/n said.
"NO!" the other four answered quickly.
Y/n didn't even react. Their anger wasn't directed at her. Their anger was pain. Their anger was guilt. The Snake had just killed their teacher, and they'd not been able to do anything. She had tried to save Dovey, but it had been useless. It would have been useless even if the others didn't hold her back. Dovey had never intended to be saved.

But Japeth had seen them.
Japeth had seen four Tedroses pulling away another Tedros with a white cat.
He'd known it was them. Then again, who else would it have been, from the way they acted.
But now the Snake and his men were coming for them.

"We can't outrun horses," Y/n said, trying to resist the others pulling her along. "We need to hide!"
Hooves echoed over the drawbridge. They'd be here any second—
Y/n saw a steep downslope to the east blanketed in fallen leaves. She used magic to lasso them all close to each other, before pushing them all down with her. They all rolled down the slope, before shooting into a giant pile of leaves. Light faded around them, the sun blocked.

As she laid there, Y/n felt despair overwhelm her.
Professor Dovey was dead.
Her fairy godmother.
The one who trained her in magic.
The one who would comfort her when times were hard.
Dovey had been the closest thing she had to a mother.
And now she'd given up her life to give them all a chance to continue theirs.
How come that so many she'd begun to see as a sort of family: Mr, Deauville, Callis, Professor Sader, Professor Dovey, Orion... One by one, they'd had to fall just because of her story.
But not without purpose.

The thought hit Y/n like a wind to a sail, propelling her forward, even as the tears fell.
Dovey had sacrificed herself to save her students.
To save Camelot's true king.
To save the Woods.
She'd known her body was weak, her time coming to an end. She'd known Y/n would rise in her place. That her ward would never rest until the real Lion was returned to the throne.
Y/n tears burned with fire.
Professor Dovey had known her too well.
