"Sophie, ar you sure you're okay with this?" Y/n asked, walking with Sophie and Agatha, slipping through the Tunnel of Trees.
"Yeah," Sophies aid with a nod. "Well, I don't know. But I... I trust you Y/n. I know I've done some horrible things in the past. But with the month we spent here, I rally want to change Y/n. I want to be Good. And for that, I have to trust you."

Y/n smiled at Sophie, then pulled her cloak tighter, Racing ahead into the flower, sprinkled Clearing, dimly lit by two torches on the Blue Forest gate. She'd insisted the witches stay in the castle tonight. If something where to happen, she didn't want the to get in trouble, she had put them through enough already.

Yuba had picked 9 o'clock carefully, for most of the girls were bathing, at club meetings, or busy studying for the next Trial Tryouts, while the butterflies tented to settle on rafters or banisters in the foyer, dormant to everything but the most egregious noise. With Beatrix at Elf fluency lessons and the Dean in her office, they'd have enough time to go through with the plan. How Agatha and Sophie would explain her disappearance, Y/n had questioned, but they never answered, likely because they had none.

"But what if you get hurt," Sophie worried. "What if they torture you? I don't want your pretty body to be full of scars."
Y/n almost wanted to respond that Sophie had already scarred her body, remembering the scar spelling out 'MINE' on her chest, but Y/n never did.
"Oh, don't worry so much," Agatha said. "Y/n's strong, I'm sure she'll survive."
"I'm a little nervous," Y/n said with a smile, fidgeting with her hands. "I'm not even sure what my name should be."

they noticed Yuba's white staff poking out of a hoe in the distans, wagging impermanently.
"Listen, try to get on tower guard.. that's how you'll get the pen–" Agatha said, gripping Y/n's hand. "And watch out for anyone untrustworthy."
Y/n nodded, already knowing one she would like to avoid.
Sophie said nothing, her head filled with worry, clutching Y/n's hand tight.

"Any questions about the plan once Y/n transforms?" Yuba whispered to Agatha and Sophie, his face clear of magical pox he'd given himself during class. He eyes Y/n, pumping herself a glass of water in the kitchen, and lowerd his voice even more. "It is her surest way into the boy's castle."
"B-b-but are you sure it will work?" Sophie whispered back, apalled by what the gnome was proposing. "Suppose the crogs think she's a..." She held her tongue, for Y/n had stopped pumping water and could hear them now.

"Y/n, we were just waiting for you," Y/n called quickly, hands shaking as she unfolded a bamboo curtain in the corner of the den. "Remember the spell only lasts three days–"
"Which gives Y/n only until the Trial begins," the gnome said. "Y/n must retrieve the pen and storybook before then." He stroked fire with his staff, and his den swathed in hot glow. "Remember, the School Master's tower will chase Y/n once she takes the Storian, and the boys will know they've been tricked. Agatha, Sophie, you must be waiting the instant she returens, ready to make your wish. The pen will write 'The End' in your book, and you'll both be gone before the boys attack."

Sophie's throat bobbed. "And Y/n can revert to a girl as soon as she escapes?"
"The same way she can un-mogrify-- without any residual effects."
"Well, that's good," Agatha turned to Sophie. "Now you don't have to worry about Y/n being stuck as a boy.

Y/n looked in a flowervase at her face one last time. "I'm ready," she said, going behind the bamboo curtain.
Agatha waved at Yuba to give Y/n the potion. He handed her it, and Y/n looked down at the vial and it's violet contents.
"Drink it in sips," Yuba had said. "It will ease the process."
Y/n opened it, letting out a smell of sandalwood, musk, and sweat. She could hear fast breathing outside her curtain.
"Sophie, it's okay if you don't feel comfortable with me going," Y/n said. "Agatha could go."
