Chapter 114: Blood Crystal pt 1

(Yuuup, another two parter. But that's cuz I will change the pov in the next one and the chapter this one is based on is really long, sorry guys)

For a moment, Y/n thought she was on a cloud.

She raised her head, her body sprawled on a sea of white pillows across the floor of an elegant chamber. Through a window above her, the blue glow of King Teapea's palace mixed with the distant lights of Gnomeland's metropolis. She didn't know how long she'd been asleep or who had put her in warm pajamas or in this bed, but she now realized she hadn't been sleeping alone.

For one she realized she'd not been sleeping on a pillow at all, but instead her head rested on Hort's chest. And underneath the blanket she now felt Sophie, who rested her head on Y/n's chest. Then there was a pair of arms underneath hers, and Y/n looked to her left to see Agatha. Then another pair of arms around her waist, and to the right laid Tedros. It felt oddly nice, even though there were so many people. Then again, she probably needs to get used to this anyway.

Y/n saw the white dress lay dumped in a corner of the room. On it sat Lepus, who had seemed to make the dress her bed.
That's when Y/n remembered everything: she, Agatha, and Tedros in the crystal... Rhian believing she was on his side... Japeth promising his brother he'd find her... and if he found Y/n with Agatha, Tedros, Sophie, or Hort, he'd murder all five of them...
That's when Japeth had seen them.
Inside the crystal.
He and his brother had seen Y/n with Agatha and Tedros.
Which could only mean one thing.
The Snake was coming.

Y/n flung out of bed, transforming her clothes from nightwear to a shirt and breeches. Her sudden movement also seemed to wake up the rest, who groggily went out of bed.

When the last person, Agatha, came out of their room, they had already begun eating breakfast. Y/n, Sophie, Tedros, Hort, and Reaper sat on a blanket, breakfast spread out around them as bleary-eyes gnomes servants refilled the trays: almond-stuffed croissants, cinnamon toast, grilled cheese and tomato squares, broccoli and egg frittatas, buttercream pancakes. Tedros was already on his second plate of food. Sophie, who had miraculously gotten out before Agatha, had already managed to apply make-up and wore an oddly familiar blue-and-red dress, and Hort had turned to exercise, trying in vain to get back to his buffer shape.

"His scims will find us," Agatha insisted, barely able to eat. "It's only a matter of time."
"Beatrix's team is on the lookout in the Woods. She, Renna, and Kiko are capable Evers," said Reaper. "Plus, we'll know when Gnomeland's defense has been branched—" A meow squeaked out of him and he rubbed at his throat. "Y/n's it seems your spell is wearing off."
Y/n put her finger to Reaper's throat, no longer glowing after it was locked, and redid the spell to keep the cat talking.

"Well, Rhian still thinks I'm loyal to him. So I was at least successful in fooling him," said Y/n, giving Tedros and Agatha a look. "He also mentioned bringing someone back from the dead. But he said someone they both loved."
"They both like Aric?" Hort asked. "It's a surprise even one person does."
"But how did they even see you?" Sophie asked. "The crystal only reads the soul of the people inside it. And they weren't in the ball with us."
"I have the same question," Y/n said. Finally eating at least a croissant. "So uh... how did we get back?"

"You, Agatha, and Tedros emerged from the crystal barley concision," Reaper explained to her. "Hort had to pull you three from the portal and her and Sophie put you all to bed."
"And you two managed to work together and actually be willing to sleep in the same bed?" Y/n asked. "You were willing to sleep in the same bed at Tedros?"
"Eh, we were too tired to argue about it anyway," Hort said. "As long as we got to sleep in the same bed as you."
"And the dress?" Y/n asked, looking at Sophie up and down.
"Like it, Darling? Made it out of the rug in Reaper's bathroom, after I took a long Lavender bath. Needed to extinguish the scent of the dungeon and mold."
