"Boys! How is it going up there!" Dean Mirian yelled up at the bottom of the staircase, petting the white cat in her arms. "Hurry up or it will be nightfall before we even find a single sword!"

Sounds of commotion echoed from the top floor.
"Emilio! Arjun! Pierre-Eve!... Uh..." the Dean bit herself in the lip. "I really need to learn all these names." The Dean sighed and used magic to make a loud sound, like a ruler slapping against a table. "Get down the stairs at once!"
Eight boys trampled down the steps of Arbed House, uniform shirts half-buttoned, boots untied, faces in various stages of cleanliness, all with Lion pins on their lapels. Arjun tripped on the last stair, almost toppling into everyone else like dominos if Mirian hadn't managed to catch him first.
"Now I see why Arbed boys are kept separate from the rest of the school," mumbled Dean Mirian.

"Sorry, Dean Mirian," Arjun panted. "Dean Brunhilde said we have to say our prayers and brush our teeth and step in the bath for at least five seconds every morning or the Evil will get in."
Dean Mirian smiled, pushing up her glasses, revealing e/c eyes, her lips a dark f/c color, her hair the color of her lips speared with a pencil, and not a blemish or scar on her entire skin. She wore a pair of f/c beseechers with a black ruffled blouse, and a pair of black boots.
"I understand that it's hard to adjust, but the rules might be a bit different while I'm substituting for Dean Brunhilde, since she's out with King Rhian to find his sword," Mirian said with a smile, ruffling Arjun's hair. "That's why King Rhian sent me, his beloved cousin Mirian, to take Brunhilde's place as your Dean for a while. And I've decided I also want to assist my dear cousin, to help him win the last test." She leaned in, e/c eyes sparkling. "Because I can just feel it in my bones that Excalibur is right here in Foxwood. So we're going to find it, aren't we?"

A dark-skulled boy looked suspicious. "Whole Woods is covered in swords. How do you know the real one's in Foxwood? If that's true, wouldn't everyone be searching here?"
"Emilio's right. How would you know where King Arthur hid his sword?" said a boy at once bald and littered with dandruff.
"No one can know where the sword is. They all look exactly the same," a boy said, dark skin still damp from his bath. "And it's not like we'll even know if we find it. Every time I grab one, it stays stuck in the dirt."
"And if we do find something suspicious and write the king, he sends his guards to investigate and they probably have a thousand false leads already," said Emilio.
"Plus, why would King Rhian ask Dean Brunhilde to help him instead of a wizard or sorcerer?" Arjun peppered. "And why didn't Dean Brunhilde say bye to us? And why do you wear so much make up? Especially under your right eye—"

"Did Dean Brunhilde not teach you boy to not ask so many questions?" Dean Mirian said, doing her best to keep smiling. "I'm Rhian's cousin, you sillies. He'll listen to me if I send him a personal letter. That's why I know so much. Rhian and I are very, very close. As to why he need Brunhilde in such a haste, I'm afraid that's a secret I can't even tell you. Now, come, come, my darlings. Whoever finds Excalibur will accompany me to tell the king!"
"I'm gonna find it!" Arjun yelped, bolting out the door.
"No, I will!" cried the bald boy.
"Wait for me!" shouted another, and another, until all eight were gone, even stink-eyes Emilio.

Dean Mirian watched them go, letting out a sigh of relief before she followed them out the courtyard, packed with autumn leaves and swords fallen from the sky, her boys yanking uselessly at the hilts.
They were right, of course.
There was no way to find Excalibur.
But she was a witch, after all.
And witches always find a way.

Y/n couldn't be fully sure how she ended up in Foxwood, but she had a pretty good idea.
It was that moment in Japeth's thinking place.
After Arthur had revealed the third test, when a thousand Excaliburs stabbed through the night and ripped open the sky. As she fell, she felt herself pull in two different directions. One was to be with her lovers, to help Tedros. Another was to follow Japeth. She knew that if she could just talk to him, she might break through for him. She could help him. But she only had a split second to choose who to follow, to wish for where she wanted to go next...
