Oscar
2 Days Later
"Three days. It's been three fucking days!" I slam my fist into the dining room wall. Unable to control my anger since Minnie's been missing.
Usually by now someone would be playing messenger and trying to bait me. This time they want me to come to them. Getting her back would be a trap.
"Oscar, cálmete, that's not helping anything," Marie says calmly, too calmly for my liking.
"Not helping? Not helping?" I repeat myself, growing more frustrated with every minute. Every word.
I slowly turn to Marie as she watches me from the dining room table. The same dining room I came home to find a dead body and not my wife.
"You know what's not helping? Nobody fucking doing anything," I say as i start pacing the room.
"Don't you cuss at me Oscar," she says sternly, "we're all scared okay? We're all nervous. nobody knows where she is okay? You already sent people out to look for her there's nothing we can do now besides wait."
"Wait? You want me to wait?"
"What else can you do right now Oscar?"
"I'm gonna go look myself," I say as i lean forward pointing at my own chest.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Marie protests, her expression going from calm to concerned.
I don't care though, I make my way towards the front door and she immediately jumps up from her seat.
"Oscar!" She calls out but I don't stop. My heart beats out of my chest as my thoughts are filled with areas i'm going to look, houses i'm going to search and people i'm going to have to kill. They can fuck with me all they want but once they come for the few people i care about— for Minnie, it's over.
I fought all these years to keep her out of this life and not even a few days into our marriage, she's gone. There was a dead body in my house and my wife is just gone.
Just as my hand wraps around the doorknob a hard, quick knock comes from the other side. My head shoots over to Marie as my free hand reaches for the gun on my waist band.
"Stay," I mouth to her before cautiously opening the door to find an unexpected familiar face.
My body immediately heats up with anger and before I could stop myself, my hands reach out gripping Dre's shirt and pulling him inside roughly. I slam him down to the ground and kick the door shut behind me, gaining a gasp from Marie and a deep groan from Dre.
"Fuck," Dre mutters breathlessly and reaches for his back. In pain, I imagine.
"What the fuck are you doing here?!" I spat as I pull him up by his shirt getting in his face with my fist up, ready to punch him.
"Wait wait stop," He puts his hands up to block his face, "I know where Minnie is!"
My blood runs cold and I groan im frustration before aggressively letting him go, dropping him to the floor.
"What do you mean you know where she is?" Marie walks closer, slowly, afraid a fight might break out.
Dre hesitates for a long moment before slowly rising from the ground and fixing his shirt. "I know who took her," Dre looks between me and Marie. His eyes lower to the wedding ring on my hand then looks down— disappointed.
"Who?" I ask stepping towards him, he straightens up clearly not intimidated by me right now.
"I'm not saying that," Dre shakes his head and then takes a step back as I step towards him again, "Stop, wait, I'll take you there."
"You think i'm gonna get in a fucking car with you?" I look him up and down and my face squishes at his stupidity.
"You think i'm fucking stupid or something?"
"No," Dre shakes his head, his tone getting lower, "if she was still willing to marry you then you must have... some kind of redeeming qualities."
My expression softens at his words but my face still remains suspicious.
"This feels like a set up," I shake my head taking a step back.
"Oscar," Marie says softly walking towards me, "I don't think he's lying."
"What would you know? He was lying to y'all about who he was for years." My words came out harsher than I wanted and I only know that because of Marie's motherly expression.
I look away and cross my arms as she continues her voice more stern this time, "do you really think he'd step into your home to try to set you up?"
She has a point. Any smart person wouldn't go into enemy territory if it were a set up. They'd lure them out.
"Why are you helping? Clearly it's your own people who got her, why are you giving them up?" I turn to Dre, still suspicious.
"Because I love her."
My blood boils at his response and my lip twitches, eyeing him up one last time.
"I never meant to hurt Minnie, seriously," I watch carefully as he looks between Marie and i again, "Me meeting and marrying her was supposed to protect her, that was the deal. Then you guys somehow started dating and now you married her and I can't protect her anymore."
"What deal?" Marie asks confused and steps forward.
A realization hit me that Marie might not know about the deal my father made with the Santos. Dre and I look at each other, he had the same realization.
"Minnie..." Dre starts as he slowly looks over at Marie, "Minnie was supposed to marry me so the war between the Prophets and Santos would end. Become a... Common territory. Um.. Spooky's dad agreed to it after... Minnie's... dad.. died. It was a way of protecting Southside and all of our people."
Marie looks at us in disbelief taking a deep breath as if the wind has been knocked out of her, "Mi Emilio..." she slightly stumbles back, catching herself on the dining room table.
I take a few swift steps forward, reaching out towards her to make sure she doesn't actually fall.
"Mija?" She says softly, under her breath. Fully understanding how far back this goes.
Back to when Minnie's dad was murdered in front of her.
