It wasn't like you hated being around him, it was just, he never seemed to learn. He always was a troublemaker but that was part of his duty as the God of Mischief but it didn't have to be all of the time. You doubted he even knew how to be normal, doubted that he knew anything but trouble and you'd be right in your assumptions.
"Dear, are you alright?" Frigga's voice broke your concentration and you smiled towards her.
"Sorry, I was simply thinking over some things. Did you need something?" You enjoyed her company because she understood so much but never pushed too hard.
"I came to inform you of a change in your guardian duties, from now on Odin wishes for you to watch over the East wing of the dungeons. He has explained to me that you have become bored with this side and so he decided to change that and give you something new. Now, do remember that East wing is for those condemned to eternity in their cells and may not find your presence pleasant." she placed her hands on your shoulders but your smile did not fall and you were not afraid.
"Of course, when did he want me to change sections?"
"Tomorrow, finish up here and rest for the night." She stepped back away from you before turning and leaving you to continue your thoughts.
Working in the west wing of the dungeons was alright but they were so used to you being there that all the men did was flirt or complain. They always tried to butter you up with some sob story in some sad attempt at getting you to let them free. Even if you had believed them, there was no way you would even be able to let them free, only the All-Father or Frigga could do so.
When morning came and you were dressed properly you made your way down towards the east wing of the dungeons. You were nervous, well more like anxious because it had been some time since you were responsible for this section and it was always something new each time you came in. They were like caged animals, some of them anyways and others just paced making you dizzy.
"Good morning!" Thor smiled after saying goodbye to Sif and the Warriors Three.
"Ah, good morning, Thor." You smiled back with your hands behind your back as you walked calmly with him.
"I see you have been moved to the east, how is that going for you? My brother has not been any trouble has he?" You hadn't forgotten about Loki being placed there, it was for the most dangerous after-all.
"I have yet to spent time there, I was heading there now and I suppose we shall see how I far on my first day."
"Don't hesitate to come to me if he is too much," he was concerned but you weren't sure why "he is smart, sneaky, and will try everything to make you believe he has changed but do not believe his lies, alright?"
"Of course but he will not be the first to try and get into my head, but, it seems we have reached my destination so I must bid thee farewell!" you waved to him as you shut the door to the dungeon's east wing. They had been separated for the safety of the lesser criminals and for the ease of access for the guards.
"Hello?" you walked towards the first cell on your left, there was a man with dark brown hair and dark eyes staring at you.
"I have come to give you your medication and breakfast" you smiled but he didn't move, didn't speak.
It was a long time before you made it around towards the last cell and the one that sat to the immediate right of the entrance. You noticed it wasn't any different than the others, he wore the same clothes had the same long unkempt hair and his normally calm green eyes showed the side of him you knew hid deep down.
"You appear to be staring, Love" his voice was calm, smooth, and for some reason made you feel comforted.
"Do forgive me, I have brought you some breakfast" you slid him his food through the only opening, through a space only a guard could access.
"Why are you here?" his voice startled you some, you had been told he would do this but you hadn't expected so soon.
"It is my job" you said simply as you stood on your designated spot near the door, near a button that warned of an escapee or anything else that was a danger to you.
"Job? That is laughable at best, you do not enjoy this menial way of living and I know it. It is written all over your pretty face, you hate being here and would choose any other life than this had the option presented itself from the beginning." You didn't respond to him because he was right, this was just a pay check, just another job you were stuck in.
"See, I am right."
"Loki, could I ask you a question?" this made him raise a brow and without his reply you continued
"Why'd you do it? Was a life in prison your objective? Didn't you foresee this outcome? You had to know that there was no way in any nine realms that you would be able to conquer earth? I mean, I suppose looking at it from your perspective you must have felt good having all of the power but now, you have none." You said calmly, this threw him into a rage and he quit talking to you for weeks.
On week seven he finally muttered out a 'thank you' for you handing him meal but he said nothing for the most part of that day. It was nice to have silence, but it was rare. Each day one of the men went crazy in his cell and needed to be knocked out or talked down.
"Why do you care? When you said all of those things to me, you sounded angry, why?" You had wanted nothing more than what was best for him as children and even though you two couldn't see one another often enough you used to be close. You walked over to his cell, placing your hand on the glass. He followed suit and placed his on the other side, both of your eyes showed sadness but for very different reasons.
"Because you changed. . ."
