It wasn't uncommon to find the girl in the pink shorts, tied up blonde hair, and a tank top on running down Central Park. In fact it was one of the most common sights for the people that knew her, for the people that frequented the park in the early morning hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Those were her days off, days she spent enjoying a morning jog and then a long day spent inside with a good book or old movie. It was common, yes, but for the super soldier it was new.
She wasn't usually around on the days he jogged, because of the whole saving the world thing he had very limited time to spend exercise but he tried to make it a habit of his. One jog in the morning and then the rest of his day was spent in the gym punching out his frustrations on the bags of sand strung up on a line. He was awestruck, she appeared to be so focused on what she was doing that she completely ignored him as his passed by her.
She didn't, couldn't really, ignore the occasional blur of the blonde that sped past her. She didn't see him often and she suspected that it was because he was a busy man but she had no way of knowing how busy. Her morning routine was broken by her phone going off in her pocket and she side and moved to a spot overlooking the large lake.
"Good Morning!" a cheery voice on the other end of the line practically screamed and she held the phone far from her ear to avoid the ringing that would have followed.
"Morning to you too, Derek. Why did you call me? You know it's my day off, right?" She wasn't annoyed as much as she was dreading the 'could you come in' call.
"Can't a guy call his best friend without there being a reason?" He said with a light, nervous chuckle.
"No, because with you there is always a reason AND if this is to ask me to cover for you again forget it, now I'm going to go back to my morning jog. You've already ruined my timing with this pointless call, now talk to you later~" she smirk as she hit the end button without a second thought or hearing his pleading.
"Sounds a lot like a friend of mine" the voice next to her made her nearly tumble over the railing in surprise and fright.
"It's not polite to eavesdrop OR scare people like that!" she laughed with her hand over her chest as she finally took the chance to take in the strangers looks. He was no stranger, she would recognize those blue eyes anywhere. She had seen them on television after the incident in New York and the whole Ultron catastrophe, he was Steve Rogers better known as Captain America!
She would be lying had she said she wasn't smitten with the blonde and his story, she did tell it to visitors at the museum about ten times a day but she would have never guessed he'd give her the time of day. She was as far from interesting as a person could be, as far from super-hero girlfriend material as a woman could be but here he was-
Her thoughts were interrupted with his laugh and a gorgeous smile, "sorry, Ma'am, I couldn't help but overhear it."
She felt her face heat up and shrugged, "he has always been the loud type of person, I don't think he's figured out that he doesn't have to yell."
"Would you like to jog with me?" She asked with a hopeful smile, one that he couldn't say no too.
