She always smiled, always seemed so happy but she wasn't. She had a hard life and even though she had a great one now the past haunted her dreams and sometimes her days. She fought through it, did her best to keep everyone from worrying about her but she never counted on falling for one of the most careless and harsh men in the institute.
She smiled as the last student left her room and she was alone again, she was done for the day and only had to bare through dinner with her friends and she'd be alone. She just needed some time alone, some time to let out all of the tears that were right behind her eyes and the sobs sitting as a lump in her throat. She was worn thin, working hard and training even harder made it go away but only for a little while. The last thing she wanted to do was bother her friends with her emotional baggage.
Smiles, smiling was the only way to keep them from asking her what was wrong but she didn't know they knew. They knew she hurt because those who were close to her knew her past, they knew how hard life had been for her but she wasn't the only one. He had a soft spot for her, he had a thing for her but denied his feelings for her safety but when he heard her sad cries at night he couldn't take it.
After dinner, when she was sure everyone was sleeping and she was the only one awake within close proximity she grabbed her blanket brought it up to her chest and cried into it. She cried for her lost family, for her differences, for the pain, and for herself. She was trying so hard to be as quiet as a mouse, unheard and remain that way.
He heard it again, the cries from her room, and couldn't bare to hear it one more night. Her cries broke his heart, made him want to cry for her and hold her until all of the pain disappeared. He managed to break himself away from his rambling thoughts and look around, the last thing he needed was someone to see him go into her room. He did not need rumors spreading and he was sure she didn't either.
She heard a faint knock on her bedroom door that startled her and she rushed to clean her face. She fixed herself as best she could before opening the door. She was dumbfounded, confused as to why he of all people stood in front of her.
"Can I come in?" his voice was hushed but she nodded, moving to the side to let him in before shutting the door.
She wanted to ask him why he was there, ask him what he needed and then send him on his way but when she shut the door he pulled her into a tight hug. In all of the years she had been here, all of the years knowing Logan she had never seen him hug a sole. She had never even seen him crack a smile that was not condescending in one way or another. She didn't really care, she needed this.
He wasn't sure what to say so he let his actions speak for him, let his hug tell her that he was there and that even he had a soft spot for her. He was determined to make her smile, make her feel better even if that meant staying right here all night long. He knew she was upset but he didn't know why and honestly, he didn't care right now because all he knew was that she needed him.
She clung onto his flannel shirt, holding it and crying. She had cried by herself for so long that this brought a new wave of pain but comfort to her heart. She sniffled after a while of crying but didn't move to speak to him. She wasn't sure why he wanted to help her or why he had even been passing by her room but she didn't think on it much.
"You feeling better, Bub?" he asked rubbing her back in a soothing circular motion and she nodded into his chest. After a moment of this she pulled away from him, face red from crying and being buried into his chest.
"Why?" she whispered, still in his arms but just pushed away to see his face.
"Why, what?" "why help me?" she looked up, meeting his dark brown eyes with hers "because you needed someone, I know what it's like to be in this kind of pain. I know how you feel and I can't just let you deal with this alone, I want to help you feel better" his normally gruff voice was abnormally soft while he talked to her.
She smiled though, even if this was strange and foreign to the two of them she smiled. It felt nice to vent to someone, to talk to someone, and to have someone listen to everything she had to say. She grabbed his hand, interlocking her fingers with his and instead of pulling away he pulled her close to him. It didn't take but a look at her to know that she was completely exhausted so he didn't ask her if she wanted to sleep he only pulled her on top of him and made her go to sleep.
The morning came and she was alone, she had thought it was all just a dream that she had to make herself feel better. A thing her mind had concocted to replace the pain with something happier but when she heard the laughs and teasing that went on outside of her room she knew it wasn't. She had really just slept all night without a single nightmare and all while she slept on the man she fell in love with. Her face heated up at the notion but her mind was distracted by the noise.
"You do have a soft side! Oh, I knew it! I was coming to wake her up and I saw it, I saw the way you looked at her and-" a noise all to familiar came to her ears as well as a low growl, "say anything and I will gut you, do you understand?" Logan voice was definitely frightening and whoever it was left in one hell of a hurry. She had to admit though, it was pretty funny but she didn't laugh when he came back into the room.
She smiled, faking sleep again while he stood at the end of the bed. She heard him mumbling things under his breath,
"I don't need everyone knowing I have a soft spot for something. . .or someone. The crap they'd put me through. . ." she chuckled opening her eyes to meet his.
"Logan, I won't tell anyone and besides I love both sides of you. Be it your rough and tough side or your softer one, you're still the same man to me." he grunted and she rolled her eyes leaning up and grabbing his clenched fist in her hand. Her actions said everything he needed to know, she pulled him down to her level and placed a soft kiss on his lips. He grinned into the kiss but the sweet moment was ruined when the same voice from earlier broke the silence.
"Really, again? I really do catch you in the worst possibly positions Lo-" Logan pulled away swirling around to face the young silver haired boy with his claws out and ready.
"You can't catch me!" Pietro cried as he rushed away from the doorway and Logan growled "Oh I will and when I do. . ." his voice was now too far away for her to hear but she simply laughed. Logan was mad but he wasn't actually going to do anything to the poor boy, it was funny though. Standing in the doorway was a familiar face, and that face had a knowing smirk on it.
"Storm, don't you even say it" she playfully warned as she stood up to co with her friend to breakfast and, mostly to watch Pietro and Logan argue. Storm didn't have to say anything, everything was written on the girls face.
