It was dark out by the time you made it back to your birth city, back to the city where you had fallen in love, back to the city you left so many years ago. You left because you were unsure of how to react to being with him, you left because you were afraid of being in love and afraid of being hurt. Now, given another chance to do things over again you would have because you never wanted to leave like you did. You weren't even sure where he'd gone or if he had even stayed here in Gotham but something inside told you to come back and so you caught the next plane and did just that.

Gotham was a decent city where you grew up but when you came back it was disgusting to put it lightly. There were beggars on every street, trash thrown about the streets and thugs stalking around looking for their next target. You were taught to defend yourself but you were no fighter, you couldn't save anyone like Batman and Robin. You hadn't seen him since he worked with Bruce, but you sure did miss him. You missed his sweet smiles, his corny jokes, and the way he held you. You missed him so much that you cried yourself to sleep for the first month after you left, you tore yourself up but eventually convinced yourself it was for the best.

You made your way towards the only place you knew for sure still stood, Wayne Manor. You went mostly to see if he was still around, you had to know he was at least doing alright. He didn't have to take you back, hell, you were expecting him to have someone else. You expected him to have a family by now, something he had talked about with you way back then. You felt a knot in your throat the more you thought about the past and the more you walked these old streets. You laughed bitterly as the dark sky started to gently cover you in a thin layer of water, you always felt like the sky knew you too well and knew how to make you feel worse.

"Wayne Manor, can I help you?" Alfred's voice hadn't changed and you smiled, he was a kind man.

"It's me, Al" you choked out into the speaker, you weren't even sure if he had heard you but you assumed so seeing the gates begin to open slowly.

They creaked and slowly came to a stop and you walked through taking in the large yard and the well-kept garden. With each step a different memory played through your head and with each memory, each step began to get harder to take and before long you were standing still. You were staring hard at the ground trying to force the tears and slight excitement back inside. You were excited to see Bruce and Alfred again, they had been good friends while you worked and lived here in Gotham. You had left everyone on good terms, except him, you never told him you were leaving because you couldn't face it.

"Good evening, allow me" you managed to move once more and knocked on the manor door being greeted by the butler.

"Thank you, where is Bruce?" You offered him a kind smile as he took your damp jacket.

"He is upstairs but should be here in a moment, I called him down once I heard you were here. He was quite surprised to here you were back in town, what made you come back?" you shrugged.

"I'm not sure, just. . .a feeling I got" you managed to mutter out your excuse earning a skeptical glance from Alfred.

"I shall leave you to wait for Mister Wayne" you nodded not glancing over to him but more looking around the huge manor entrance area.

"Bruce said he-" the voice was familiar but much deeper so you couldn't quite place a name with the voice so you turned towards the person.

"Excuse me?" there was something familiar about his face but you still couldn't quite place it.

"Why? Why did you come back now?" you raised an eyebrow but then when he grinned and rushed down the stairs did you realize who it was.

"Di-Dick? I, you, I mean-" you threw your arms around him and he held you close, held you like he had all those years ago and everything felt right.

For a while neither of you knew what to say or how to say anything at all, it was a feeling of overwhelming happiness and shock. You didn't expect to see him, you had expected to hear about him and that would be it but this, this wasn't expected at all. You loved every minute that he held you again, you took in the smell of his cologne again and finally managed to pull away from the hug.

"I know I owe you an explanation but before I tell you why I want you to know, I love you! There was never a moment I didn't think about you, a moment where I wish I had told you or at least said goodbye. I wish I had done everything differently but I can't take that back." you had your hands grasping his and he watched you explain everything.

He watched you talk and talk like you used to do and in his heart he knew he didn't care about the past now. He knew he should be mad at you, he should hold the pain you caused against you but he couldn't. All he cared about was that you were here, back in his arms, back where you should have stayed and where he has needed you to be. He's had a hard life, he's only had a few friends and so when you left he had all but broken down and the only reason he didn't stop helping Bruce was because he felt like he owed him. Bruce would tell him, whenever he was upset about your sudden disappearance, that you would come back to him and you would be fine. Granted, he never truly believed it but he nodded and let the old man talk about that non-sense but now, now he believed him.

"You know what, I don't care about why you left. I love you and I just need to know that you're sticking around for good this time?" he looked at you with his blue eyes full of hopefulness and despite not having planned on sticking around you knew where your home was and it was with him so you nodded.

"I won't leave you like that every again, I couldn't bare that kind of pain again. I'm not going anywhere, this is my home and I should have stayed the first time but I was young and dumb but I know better now." you sealed the promise with a soft kiss, one that always left you breathless no matter the duration.

Bruce was a smart man and he knew why you left, he knew everything that was going on and that's why he sent Dick down instead of coming down himself. He may have lied to the boy but, clearly, it was for the best because lovers were reunited.
