You were one of Steve's best friends, right next to a man you only knew by the nickname of 'Bucky'. You had never met Bucky but you heard plenty of stories from Steve and from the sounds of it he was a man you'd like to know. Though you hadn't had the chance to meet him, with school ending and university to get ready for you just didn't have the free time you used to. Adversely this meant seeing less of Steve as well but you two managed to keep in touch.

You were sitting in a coffee shop, three books to your immediately right, a laptop in front, and a small cup of empty coffee to the left. You were finishing up a last minute report that was due in the morning when a man came up to you. His hair was slicked back and he had a army uniform on that was clearly well ironed and just as neat as could be. You noticed the name tag sitting atop his breast pocket that read 'SGT. James Barnes' and the name felt familiar to you.

"Ma'am, you mind if I sit with you?" His voice was as polite as his smile and you nodded unable to deny this handsome and polite man a seat.

"Are you busy? Because if you are I could just go and see-"

"I'm just finishing up, I don't mind talking with you. You seem to have a lot on your mind, Soldier." You gave him a kind smile and he relaxed in his seat before glancing down at his coffee.

"Not one person's called me Soldier, everyone calls me Bucky so you can too if you'd like." You smiled realizing why you recognized his last name on the tag.

"So you're Bucky, Steve's told me a lot about you but never that you were in the army." Your attention was completely on Bucky now.

"So you're the girl he talks about, nice to finally meet you but he hasn't said anything because I was just drafted. He's been trying to get in but I don't think he'll make it, you know? He's just not physically capable of passing the check-ups let alone the actual exams. I mean, he has an incredibly big heart and his morals in line but sometimes that isn't always enough." He started talking and you nodded agreeing with him and before long it was getting dark.

"Excuse me but we're about to close and you have to leave." The manager said stepping up to the table where you two were still talking.

"Oh! We're so sorry, we lost track of time." You grabbed a few of your things and noticed that Bucky held the rest helping you carry the books.

"Thanks, Bucky. How about we meet down by the ocean? You know near the pier?" You had reached your place in a short period of time, which is why you go to that shop, but you wished you had more time with Bucky.

"Sure, 'bout noon?" You grinned taking your books from him after opening your door to make it easier on yourself.

"See you then!" You pecked him on the cheek before shutting your door and squealing like a little girl.

Noon came and you were dressed casually in a summer dress your mother bought you two summer's ago that you had yet to find an occasion for. Until now, you were walking towards the pier when you heard your name being called from the far left side nearest the water. You waved heading towards where Bucky sat, not a nervous bone in your body. Something about being with him made you feel comfortable and the anxiety and nervousness all faded away.

"You look wonderful, that colour really makes your eyes sparkle or that could be the day but either way it looks good on you." His compliment made your face redden and you brushed a curl behind your ear.

"Thank you, um, so," You weren't looking forward to asking him this question because you were sure it'd only break your heart but you needed to know.
