She spent a lot of her time in the Danger Room, she wanted to control her shape shifting and not just shift because she was emotionally unstable. She worried too much, fought too hard, and trained too long but she was not the type to give up and she was determined to control at least one thing in her life.
He watched her everyday, watched her fight and work until Logan had to carry her out because she could not walk own her own. He saw what she could not, he saw the strength underneath and her will but all she saw was weakness. He was afraid to tell her but he wasn't sure what he was afraid of she was one of the nicest people here at the school.
Despite all of the things she's gone through she harbors no hard feelings, she was so much stronger than she pictured herself. Collapsing she was now unable to move and it was then when Logan came in, she still had no clue how she had become so close to him but she was grateful he was there.
"Overdid it again, bub" Logan wasn't really asking but she wasn't able to answer it even if he had been, she couldn't move let alone talk. He lifted her up, she was feather weight to him and he wondered how she still had energy.
"You're tiny, how on earth do you have all of that energy?" he chuckled and she managed a small smirk.
Hank was watching Logan as he brought the girl to him, what did he think he was doing? There were a million things going on in Hanks mind, all leading back to how much he tried to hide himself from the girl he had fallen so helplessly in love with.
"Bub, could you take her back to her room I have some things here I need to do" He handed her to Hank and the man was completely dumbfounded and his nerves took over. She had long since passed out from exhaustion at this point so he wasn't worried about her hearing what he was muttering.
"Logan!" Hank snapped "what am I suppose to do with her? You. . ." it clicked, Logan knew about his crush and he was making Hank carry her on purpose!
"You sneaky bastard" Logan smirked and placed a firm hand on his shoulder "come on, the only reason she hasn't noticed is because she's too busy in there" Logan pointed towards the room they just left.
"She's trying to get stronger but she's one of the strongest women I know" Hank said this absentmindedly forgetting that he had yet to move away from Logan who laughed.
"You sound like a love sick puppy, man, you need to tell her before someone else gets there before you." Realization hit Hank hard and it hurt his heart, "now get her to bed, she needs a good nights rest and some good food!" he waved the man away before walking away himself.
Hank carried the girl carefully through the halls of the Institute earning some very confused looks that he tried to ignore. He was so worried that he was going to hurt her, maybe he'd squeeze too tight or. . .or-
"I'm used to seeing Logan carry her back, what's happened now?" Storm grinned, she knew because she could clearly see the flustered look on his face while he held her close to him.
"Um, Logan said he had other things to attend to so he asked for me to get her back to her room. Nothings" he shuffled through the door Storm half blocked with her body "nothings happened, well, nothing different from any other day." He muttered under his breath as he covered the girl in her large speckled comforter.
"You're as hopeless as he says" Storm said with a smirk on her face "everyone knows except her, you really should tell her" she shrugged "who knows she might feel the same" his head snapped up from the floor but the door was shut and he was left alone with her.
He was left alone with his racing mind, "well, what's the worst that could happen? She's a shape shifter so. . .anything, great that narrowed it down so much!" he was internally conflicted about whether or not he could tell her. She was so much better than him, he didn't feel like he deserved her and that she had to love someone better for her than him. She was too perfect to fall for someone like him, she always spent her time with Logan and Scott there was no way.
With a hoarse, soft whisper she interrupted the conflict she saw written on his face "Hank?" she watched him jump clean off of the floor, clearly he was deep into that thought.
"Are you alright? Do you want me to get you something to eat? I-I mean I'm sure you-" she held up her hand for him to stop talking and he did looking down at the floor, ashamed.
She smiled softly, still unable to move properly due to fatigue "Hank, would you come here?" suddenly his feet were as heavy as cement. She was patient though and waited until he got up the courage to move towards her.
"y-yeah?" she managed to loosen up more muscles and moved over so he could sit next to her, she motioned for him to do so seeing the tiredness still in her eyes. He would have lost himself in them if she had not started whispering to him.
"I, I'm sorry" she said gripping his hand feeling his pulse speed up under her touch "I, I know this sounds dumb but I really would like it if you stayed with me. That's all I want." she smiled.
He didn't know what to say so he nodded, gripping her hand to show he wasn't leaving anytime soon. He got up the courage to begin to play with the thin fingers on her left hand before talking to her.
"You know, um, you're quite the fighter" he felt his face heat up from embarrassment "I-I mean, it's just something I noticed" she blushed but smiled despite it.
"You should help me train some time, I'd really enjoy that" he couldn't possibly do that, what if he hurt her and as if she could read his mind she said "you won't hurt me anymore than I do myself in those exercises, you know, I can change into any for I know well enough right?" She didn't mean it like that but they both got really quiet before breaking into fights of laughter, man that was bad.
"That, that came out wrong! sorry!" she muttered, looking away from him "it's alright, I know what you meant if that counts" there was more silence. She sighed, all of the muscles in her body were crying out in pain and she tried to hide it but she felt him shuffle and turn to look at her. She was sure her face gave it away, she couldn't manage to keep the pain hidden forever.
"I know you're in pain, I can go get you some medicine-" He stopped when she managed to pull him down to lay with her "just stay here" she was always this bold and he wasn't, but he didn't argue.
"Are you-" she placed her lips on his and then said something that made him almost yell in protest but he remained quiet "I don't deserve you but I'm glad I have you." He held her close to him, mindful to be gentle. This had to be a dream and he was going to wake up and she was going to disappear.
"I, um, I'd like to spend more time with you if that's alright" he mumbled into her hair and felt her nod into his chest "I'd like that, how about we start now?" she mumbled out before passing out from the muscle strain and the amount of pain she was in. He held her close, close enough to feel her heartbeat against his chest and he couldn't move now. He didn't deserve her either but he loved her and he would do anything for her.
