Raven was a dear friend of yours, she understood you in a way no one had before because you and her share a very similar mutation. Since she was close to you you adversely became to know both Erik and Charles, mostly because she hung around them at first but then you became true friends. You loved both of them, Charles like the brother you needed and Erik. . .well, he was very special to you even though you doubted he'd share your feelings. You loved how straightforward he was, how he spoke his mind and how much he cared about the mutants even if his view on humanity was a bit twisted. You had agreed to go with Raven and Charles to the pub that sat very close to the mansion you all shared while you trained to gain control over your powers and feel safe. You had truly only agreed because Raven said Erik was going to be there and you couldn't pass up a chance to talk with him while he was a but more loosened up.
"Raven, you can't be serious." you grumbled to the girl that sat next to you with a strange coloured drink in her hands smiling wildly.
"I am totally serious, have you seen the way he looks at you? He is like in love with you for crying out loud, you should talk to him!" she kept giving you encouraging words but you really couldn't believe them. How would a man like him fall for a simple girl like you?
"Charles hush!" Erik demanded as they watched the girls from across the room, Charles grinned from ear to ear.
"I'm not lying, she's completely infatuated with you Erik!" Charles took a long gulp from the glass in his hand.
"Do not tell me you've pried into her head?" Erik narrowed his eyes and Charles gave a hearty laugh before setting his cup on the bar and raising his hand towards the bartender signalling he wanted more.
"Never, simple observation my dear friend" he pointed over towards where the girls were still chatting away.
"I'm sure you've noticed her small glances at you, the way she blushes when you talk to her about how well she's doing in training, and especially when you two are close!" Charles was beginning to get on his nerves but he took a deep breath and ignored the feeling before letting his friend take him through the reasons why he thought you were in love with him.
You laughed at a joke Raven had made offering to get her another drink and yourself some more water. She nodded waving you off before carrying on small talk with a nearby man who didn't seem all that upset she'd started talking with him. You sat the cups on the bar next to Erik, your shyness making you keep your eyes firmly planted on the wooden pattern the bar was decorated with.
All Erik could see was the signs that Charles had pointed out to him, the shyness and blushing and how reluctant you were to make eye contact with him. He was so deep in thought that by the time he pulled himself out of them you had already returned to the table where Raven chatted with her new buddy. It was a long, long time before the small band the pub had been paying to play music for them started to play a simply slow song melody. It wasn't anything amazing, nor was it that interesting but it was pleasant enough and a good change from the upbeat music they had been playing.
"You should ask her to dance!" Charles beamed reappearing next to his old friend, Erik wasn't startled but he was a bit disgusted by how drunk Charles had become.
"You should totally dance with him! I mean that'd be so cute and you know you want to" Raven was so drunk it almost made you drunk just being near her and so instead of complaining or arguing with her you nodded and headed towards Erik who was listening to Charles.
You smiled meeting his eyes for the first time today, he had the most entrancing and lovely gray eyes that made you want to be near him; made you want to get lost in them. You were standing in front of him and neither of you really said anything and you didn't have to because the mood sort of said it for you. You felt his hand slip around your waist and yours involuntarily moved to encircle his neck softly before you began to slowly sway with him to the melody playing. His eyes bore holes through you and he looked like he was fighting with himself to speak, to say something to you but every time he got the courage up his mind would change and he'd say nothing.
"You know, you can tell me what's on your mind. I'll listen to whatever you have to say, you know that right?" you smiled encouraging him with a nod to start talking.
"You look nice tonight" he was extremely close now and you could smell his cologne and it almost made you lightheaded.
"Charles said you really liked me, is it true?" he whispered this into your ear and you could feel them heat up along with the rest of your face.
"I um, yes Erik it's true" he moved back and for a long moment time seemed to move slowly while he contemplated what to say or do next. You had been holding in your breath, waiting in silence for rejection to break your heart and so you turned your eyes to the side and away from his. You weren't expecting him to feel the same way anyways but you had expected him to at least tell you he didn't feel the same quicker than this, because this was agonizing.
"Good" he moved a strand of your hair out of your face gently making sure to stroke your cheek when he pulled his hand away.
"You mean a lot to me, you're like that diamond in the rough that everyone searches for. All you need is a little encouragement to shine bright" he smiled a loving and soft smile that you caught a glimpse of when you glanced up briefly when he said that you meant a lot to him, he caught your face before you could turn it again. He held it in his hand, his eyes were watching yours dart around in a desperate attempt to hide your shy blushing self from his gaze.
"Look at me" he ordered softly and when you did and your eyes finally met he kissed you lightly but you know how these sort of things go and you weren't lucky enough to not be a statistic and Raven decided to bound on up with Charles glued to her side. You were embarrassed, quite badly so but being in Erik's arms left you no room to move or hide away from them and so you had to face them with a face as red as a tomato.
"It is about time! I've been trying to tell the man that you were hopelessly in love with him but he just did not want to listen!" Charles was so drunk and Raven with him only made it worse because now they just bickered back and forth about who had gotten the two of you together.
"Care to get them in the car, I'll get them back to the mansion if you can do that much" you managed to roll your eyes before grabbing the keys that Erik held out to you after agreeing to your terms. It was a long night full of strange friends but happy endings.
