It was common for you to stay shut away from the others, not because you wanted to, certainly not that but you were far too shy to talk with them. You would end up stuttering over your greeting and then feeling like a complete fool and hide away for the better part of the day.

Today was no different, you were as quiet as a mouse while you read in the courtyard. It was such a lovely day you couldn't help but smile as a breeze swept through making your hair swirl around before plopping softly back into place on your shoulder and back. You were deep into the fantasy tale that you were reading when a familiar voice made you look up.

"Is that all you ever do?" the voice belonged to Raven, someone you had come to trust and could actually talk to.

"It's fun, you should try it!" you joked sharing a laugh with her.

"What did you need, Raven? I certainly don't believe it was just to talk." you raised a questioning eyebrow and she gave you a small smirk.

"I came to talk to you about you know who~" she said in a sing-song like voice making you cringe.

You knew who she was talking about and your encounters with him have been less than thrilling. You always seemed to find a way to embarrass yourself in front of Erik even when you weren't trying too. You adored him, but, the two of you were complete and utter polar opposites. You were shy and quiet, he, well, he is very demanding and loud. You really like that he has no trouble speaking his opinions, how he always seems to be in control of everything in his life and you, just weren't that lucky.

"Oh, come on Raven! You know how ridiculous this is, I always embarrass myself in front of him and always end up feeling foolish. I like him, a great bit, but I couldn't possibly tell him that." You voice getting smaller with each sentence.

"But how do you know he doesn't feel the same? You always say this, try talking to him at least once today and see if you can tell him how you feel." She gave you her signature puppy dog eyes and you crinkled up your nose before sighing, defeated. She cheered.

"Fine, but you better be there when I make a complete fool of myself!" You shouted at her as she darted across the lawn again towards the mansions two large double doors.

"See, I told you it'd work!" Raven exclaimed to Charles who sat at his desk looking over some papers.

"You only asked her to talk with him, how do you know if it will end well or not?" He was only teasing of course, he knew the two had feelings for one another but with Erik so busy and her too shy to even talk with him, intervention was needed to get the two together.

"Oh, hush! I know what I'm doing, they're like our best friends I think I can tell love when I see it." Charles laughed as Raven place on hand on her hip and the other over her chest.

"Of course, my mistake." Charles went back to his paperwork, ones containing information about new mutations and other technical non-sense.

You weren't ready to speak with him, you were far beyond nervous. You took a few deep breaths trying hard to calm your nerves but it didn't seem to be working. You couldn't stay nervous long, you remembered the last time it happened you ended up shape-shifting into a squirrel by accident. Lord know what animal you'd turn into this time because it wasn't embarrassing enough to stutter!

"Good evening" Erik's smooth voice quelled the argument inside your head and you turned to face him.

"H-h, hello, Erik!" you smiled trying hard to hide the fear you felt.

"Charles and Raven said you needed to speak with me?" He smiled slightly, his dark gray eyes making yours dart towards the floor to avoid them.

"Oh! um, yes, I was wondering," you voice trailed off slightly before you cleared your throat and closed your eyes "could we go outside and talk?"

"Of course" he always sounded so professional when he spoke.

The two of you made your way outside, you were hoping that the fresh spring air would give you the confidence boost you needed to confess to him.

"So, what did you need?" you couldn't believe it, this was it and no matter how much you wanted to dart off back into the castle you stood next to him.

"Erik, I, um, I really like you!" you declared eyes glued to the pebble filled pathway.

There was a long, deafening silence that followed and you felt the knot in your throat. Surely this was it, he was going to admit that he did not care for you like you did for him. This was going to be the exact moment where you lost all of your courage to ever speak again and-

"I know" his voice was soft, almost a whisper as he brought your face up to look at him.

"I really like you, your shyness only adds to it so don't be ashamed to just be you around me." his smile nearly made your knees buckle. You nodded unable to speak, unable to express both your surprise and gratitude.

"I don't want you to become an open book but you should start talking more, you have a lovely voice." His breath tickled your cheek and you leaned up closing the distance between the two of you.

The kiss was short and sweet, leaving you breathless. Pulling away from one another he laced his fingers with yours and began walking. Although you had some trouble keeping pace you were euphoric as you walked with him.

"Yeah, I suppose I will. . ."
