You were reading silently on the couch. It was your birthday and your only wish was to have the day to yourself. You could celebrate with your brothers and boyfriend, Castiel, later in the evening.

This was your favorite book, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien. You were at the part where the battle of Helm's Deep was over and everyone was heading back to the kingdom to celebrate. You loved the books and the movies. You wanted nothing more than to be apart of Middle Earth, it all seemed so interesting!

You gazed at the LOTR movie collection next to the television and sighed, but you then heard the flap of wings as Castiel sat at the end of the couch.

"Happy twenty seventh year of being alive, Y/n," he said blankly.

"Thank you, Cas," you smirked. He got up and started looking at the movie options, looking from your book to the Return of the King movie case.

"Come with me." He held his hand out, and you reluctantly set your book down. As soon as your fingers touched his, the world melted around you and you found yourself in the Halls of Edoras.

You gaped and saw that you were in the movie world. King Théoden stood proudly by the thrones and raised a single goblet. The Rohirrim stood and raised their glasses.

"Tonight, we remember those who gave their blood to defend this country. Hail the victorious dead!"

"Hail!" everyone shouted and downed their glasses. You excitedly slapped Cas' shoulder and jumped up and down.

"You brought me to Middle Earth?!" you squealed.

"As I said, happy twenty seventh year of being alive." He gave you a soft smile.

But then you gaped. "We need an outfit to blend in! We can't just walk around in trench coats and jeans! People would think we're mad."

You found yourself into an elegant blue dress, with long white sleeves. You looked over to Cas and saw that he was in a leather jacket, like Faramir's style, and black trousers. He looked uncomfortable to be out of his trench coat.

"If I'm right, Legolas and Gimli should be starting a drinking contest by now." You raced off and soon found the elf and the dwarf surrounded by a bunch of men.

"-so it's a drinking game?" Legolas questioned, the crowd cheered. You shoved Castiel forwards to the mix. Legolas' blue eyes focused on the newcomer.

"I volunteer Castiel, son of Novak, to participate in this challenge." Cas focused his eyes to you and they grew wide in fear. "Relax," you scoffed, "the only thing is that you have to drink and don't pass out, throw up, or quit. You basically have to beat Legolas, the blonde with the pointed ears."

He gulped and sat down on the opposite bench as Gimli.

"Castiel," Eomer muttered with a frown. "I've never seen you before. But it's nice to meet you."

After a few awkward handshakes the game started.

One by one the participating men dropped out.

"I feel a slight tingle in my fingers-" Legolas held his hand up. You snapped your attention away from Merry and Pippin dancing and singing on the table across the hall. "I think it's affecting me."

Eomer raised an eyebrow.

"What'd I say?" Gimli slurred. "He can't hold his liquor-" Then he collapsed.

"Game almost over." Legolas looked at his passed out friend. He gave a challenging gaze to Castiel.

"I'd say, I've never seen a man drink as much as you." Eomer gave Cas a questioning look.

"I think I'm starting to feel something." Cas furrowed his eyebrows together.

"He's not a man," Legolas started tilting, "does anyone else see his wings?"

The men drunkenly laughed and you gasped. How could Legolas see Cas' wings? Meanwhile, Castiel started panicking.

"You're drunk, Greenleaf," you snapped, setting your hand on your boyfriends shoulder, giggling a bit. "He clearly has no wings."

Legolas shrugged and reached for another tankard.

You started dancing and singing with Merry and Pippin, knowing a lot of their songs thanks to the books and movies. You made sure to say nothing revealing of your life back on Earth.

"Men these days think women are useless," Eowen chatted with you.

"Yes, my brothers tend to leave me out sometimes because they think I will get hurt in battle, yet, I still get to train with them," you responded.

Eowen's face lit up. "Do you think you can teach me something?" she asked. You nodded and you two started heading to the armory.

"My Lady." A soldier staggered over to you. "You look like a ray of sunshine unspoiled by the darkness and dangers of the world." He belched, "Which, I-" He sent a flirtatious smile at you, "will kindly fight off for yeh."

"I'm perfectly capable of handling myself, thank you." You poked the guy on the shoulder and Eowen chuckled as he tipped over.

"Has any man caught your eye yet?" she asked. You blushed and looked back to Cas and she followed your gaze.

"His name is Castiel," you sighed.

"His hair is strangely short, it looks good." You realized that men here didn't have hair like Cas or Dean, it was always around the length of Sam's hair or longer.

You and Eowyn then dueled for a bit in the armory.

"You are very good," she said as you disarmed her.

"I mostly do hand to hand or knife work," you admitted. Eowyn looked thoughtful for a bit.

"Here," she handed you a beautiful knife with a lovely handle, "as a gift. The blade is silver with gold etchings, meant to look like the style of an elven weapon. Unfortunately our blacksmiths couldn't figure out to get the blade to glow blue when orcs are around."

You and Eowyn walked back over to the drinking contest, you slipped the knife up your sleeve like Cas taught you to do.

"Who is your friend?" Eomer stepped in front of you. "We are nearly out of our ale stores yet none of them look like they are going to give up."

"He's, uh, a dunedain. A ranger from the South, so Aragorn doesn't know him. His father is an elf from-" You thought for a moment, "Lorien. His mother is a maiden from Gondor."

"Interesting-"

You were cut of by cheers of men as Legolas passed out.

"We have a winner. Castiel son of Novak!" The cheers and hollers started up again as Cas shakily stood up.

"This is worse than when I found a liquor store-" he slurred. You smiled and kissed his cheek.

"Let's go home, then."

You were back in the bunker and Cas fell face first into the couch.

"Y/n! Where the Hell were you? What happened to him?" Dean and Sam raced over. "And why are you two dressed like you went to Comic Con?"

"We went on an adventure," you smiled. You slipped the knife from your sleeve and studied it, not believing that you were actually in Middle Earth.

This was definitely your best birthday.
