"So get this," your boyfriend pointed to the book that lay open on the table. Dean stood up and walked behind Sam. "It might be a mermaid responsible for the drownings."

"A mermaid?" Dean scoffed. "What's next? We'll be hunting the Loch Ness monster? Frankenstein?"

You had to roll your eyes.

"It says here that mermaids are actually souls of women drowned back in the fifteen- sixteen hundreds." He cleared his throat and began to read, "'We threw the women overboard during a storm as the ship's weight was too large to stay above the surface. But days later, we saw familiar figures swimming beside us- legs fused into tails. They sang sweet melodies that lulled men overboard like siren song, from the water they took them to the deep abyss and the men were never seen again."

Sam finished reading and you decided that now was the time to get up from your spot and head to your room. You heard the last bits of fading conversation of the brothers on your way out.

"You decided it was a mermaid from that?"

"Well, the witnesses claimed-"

You sighed, resting your head against the wall.

You thought that you were the only one- the last mermaid. But you had seen the photos of the man, you had recognized the way of murder. Clearly another was alive.

You had kept your secret for so long, you had avoided going into the water, claiming you couldn't swim. You took showers only when you knew the brothers were gone or asleep.

But now that they knew that mermaids existed and were dangerous... You were too embarrassed to tell Sam your secret.

"Hey, Y/n?" Sam knocked on your door, you sighed and opened it. "You okay?"

"Yeah- headache. You know?"

"Yeah, well, we're going to leave soon for the hunt. We know water isn't your strong suit, but, we could still use you."

"You want me to come?" He dipped his head. You bit your lip, trying to decided if you would regret your choice or not. But if you said no, he might get suspicious. If you said yes, you would just have to steer clear of being splashed with water. "Alright, I'll go."

He smiled and exited to pack his things.

In the car, you listened to the brothers ramble on about mermaids. You had to bite your tongue in order to not blurt what was true and what was not.

"Y/n? What do you think about mermaids?" Sam looked back to you with a smile.

"I think that they are myth," you stuttered, then gained a bit of confidence. "I think what we're hunting is a ghost."

"But there hasn't been any murders of the sort anywhere near the location of the drownings."

"Alright- but mermaids aren't the only monsters that drown people," you smirked and they nodded in a subtle agreement. "And besides, there are such things as cursed objects."

You and the Winchesters stayed at a motel near the river where the bodies were discovered.

You left Sam and Dean to their researching while you took a walk along the bank. Your feet sunk into the sand and your toes started turning into flippers.

"No!" You jumped backwards and rubbed them dry. They slowly turned back to normal and you sighed, heading back to the motel.

Walking through the door, you saw Sam and Dean deep in conversation.
