When the Empath felt enormous negative and harmful energy from that person, the Empath can blocked that person automatically. In addition, Empath has the ability to let their body reject all emotional attachment to a single person whenever she/he wishes to, or feels like the person will bring her/him danger. This is part of their defense mechanism.

As a result, the Empath will never be affected to whatever emotion that specific person is felling, nor absorb any energy (negative or positive) coming for them.
