"Mirror, mirror...in my han-" Your eyes sparkling as you glanced in your rust-covered mirror.
"Still playing around with that old thing?"
You turned around, hastily. "Papa!" You tucked the looking glass behind you in a hurry. "W-what are you doing here? I thought you went out!"
He sighed, and shook his head. "Just let go of the mirror already, (Y/N)."
You avoided his gaze. "I can't just do that." Memories of your mother came flooding back. She was the one that gave you this mirror.
Papa said she had always kissed the rim before making a wish. You liked to think of it as her present for you.
"It's an old thing, (Y/N)...it's rusting already, and-"
"Please, papa." You looked up at him, smiling a bit. "I'm twenty years now...I think I can take care of a mirror. It's not like I'd cut myself."
"It's not that..."
"Great! Mirror's mine. Fantastic doing business with you," you answered sarcastically. "You said mama wanted to give it to me, anyway."
Your father sighed, and shook his head. "I knew I should've just thrown the thing away." Giggling in response, you danced out of the room.
"How's your back?" You asked.
He heartily thumped his thigh, and winced. "It's...great," he muttered. You laughed, and lead him to a seat.
"I told you- you really should stop trying to plant a garden here...the dirt's not suited for the vegetables," you warily said.
But he only waved you off. "They didn't call me Great Farmer Alwin for nothing," he flexed his arms. "Anyway- your great-grandma reached a hundred years of living- because she was a farmer!"
You sighed, raising your hand to your forehead. "But you're only going to end up with a pulled muscle...or something."
He only laughed, freely. "Oh, loosen up, (Y/N)! Just let me be carefree with my life!" He then pulled a serious face. "I would be living outside these walls, if it weren't for those dreaded Titans."
"Absolutely not," you snapped- grabbing one of the dirty cloths on the table. "There was a reason mother made you bring her into the walls."
"Besides," you smiled, secretively. "Titans are dangerous. Grandpa got killed by one, didn't he?" Your old man sighed and buried his face in his hands.
"Your grandma, too..."
You finished wiping down the windows. "And auntie," you continued. "And great-great grandma..." Your dad rolled his eyes.
"We get it- it was practically the whole lineage that fell to Titans."
He gave a huff. "But not your tough-as-nails pop!"
"Tough-as-nails," you murmured before pulling a smirk. "Yeah."
"Yeah- if-if I ever saw those ugly beasts, I would poke it's eyes out with my sharp pitchfork!" He mimicked piercing the Titan's eyes.
"Then it would run away screaming," he concluded.
'Titans can only be defeated...-'
He glanced at you. "I suppose you learned about this in during your training group?" Your face held a complex expression.
"Um, something like that." You answered, holding your upper arm. He scowled. "It's not like you're ever going to be dealing with Titans ever again."
You tried to hide a scar you had gotten from practicing with the 3DMG in private. "Y-yeah," you managed.
"But you wouldn't do anything like that!" He burst out laughing, wholeheartedly. "After all- you're daddy's little girl!"
You forced a smile. "Yeah."
After an injury from the training group, you were instantly pulled out in orders from your father. He was already insecure about Titans-
Your accident only fed that. You were 'banned' from practicing and involving yourself with anything having to do with Titans.
"Your mother..."
Your attention snapped to him. He didn't usually speak of her- but when he did, he often had a faraway look in his eyes.
"She always wanted to join."
You sat up straighter, your eyes wide. "Rea- I mean...really?" You coughed into your hand, and resumed wiping the tables.
"Which...group did she want to...?"
"The Military Police," your papa smiled. "She wanted to protect the king. But she was also scared and terrified of going out and confronting Titans."
You looked away, regretfully. Your old man was a pure, kindhearted soul. He believed the Military Police were there to protect them.
He had no idea how corrupted they were.
Pop's eyes caught yours. "Are you getting scared?" He ruffled your hair, chortling. "Do not worry, we are in the northern part! Even though it's cold- we're safe here."
"Utopia is not safe," you sighed. "But it will provide a bit more than the other districts."
Papa grinned. "Exactly, exactly! There is nothing to worry about." You watched him dance away, singing about pure white radishes and golden potatoes.
"Seriously..." You sighed, wringing the dirty cloth out. Setting it on the counter, you watched him from the window.
There, you could see him chatting happily to his wilting vegetable plants.
