*three years later*

Today is her birthday.

She would've been turning eighteen today.

And about three weeks ago, she would've graduated from high school.

It's been three years.

And I still think about her everyday.

I miss her so much.

About a month after her funeral, which the whole high school went to, I took my things out of her room, along with some of hers, such as the necklace I gave her.

I just want her back.

It's the summer before my sophomore year of college, since I was a grade ahead of her.

Her parents moved to the United States about a year after her death.

I don't think they could handle living in the same house as she once lived.

It's the third week of summer, and everyday I pass by her house.

There is a for sale sign up in front of it.

It's been for sale for two years.

I still have a key to the house.

Today, I bought flowers and a slice of cake.

I took a candle from my parents house, her necklace, the flowers, the cake, and some matches along with me for the walk.

Once I got to her house, I walked around into the backyard.

I went up to the door and put the key in the hole and twisted.

Once I was in the house, I slowly made my way up to her room.

This place had gotten so dusty since her parents moved.

There were cobwebs all over and bugs flying around.

I stood in front of her door.

This is where she lived.

This is where she smiled, laughed, cried, screamed, lived.

This is the closest I can get to her for now.

I entered her room.

None of her furniture was there anymore, and the only thing they still had was the carpet.

The white carpet that is now yellow because they never cleaned it.

"Happy birthday," I said, my hand traveling along the wall.

I set the flowers down, leaning them up against the wall.

I looked over to the bathroom, and the door was shut tight.

I will never enter that room ever again.

I sat down in the middle of the floor.

A tear fell from my eye.

"I miss you," I sniffed, and I knew that she missed me too.

"I brought you something," I said, fiddling around in my pocket, I pulled out the candle and box of matches before I pulled out the necklace.

I laid it down in front of me, the sunlight coming in from the window making the gems on it sparkle.

"It's the necklace I got you when you were fifteen," I said, sniffling.

"I love you, Bri, and I always will. I wish you would've known that when you were younger. I love you so much," I sniffed, tears falling from my eyes.

I looked down at the slice of cake and smiled. I laughed a little, "I got your favorite kind, red velvet," I said, looking around the room as if I was searching for a sign that she was here.

I put the candle in the cake and lit a match, then lit the candle, blowing out the match.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Brianna, happy birthday to you," I sang, my voice cracking at the sound of her name.

"I love you," I whispered.

I didn't move one bit. Her windows weren't open, the air wasn't on, because it never was, and I didn't even lift a finger, but somehow the flame went out.

And at that moment, I knew that she loved me too, and always will.

I looked around, smiled, and said, "I always knew you'd still be here."

And at that moment, I heard, or thought I heard a faint noise, like knocking at a door.

I found out that it came from the bathroom door.

I walked up to it, and slowly put my hand on the handle and twisted.

The bathroom looked the same, except for one thing.

There was a picture of her and I on the floor.

I smiled and said, "I love you so much, baby."

The End.
