Now we got drama and fluff here we go. Make sure to listen to the song above while reading for the full experience! This is legit the best song for the last few chapters. xDDD
It had been a day, and you needed to see him. Asriel had been especially cuddly lately, and Frisk tended to join in on the cuddle pile every now and then. Since leaving, Toriel and Asgore had fixed you up. They had then told you it had actually been 8 years that you were trapped in the underworld. However, due to Gaster, you showed no sign of aging and you possibly couldn't die because of age. Frisk seemed to also be locked in an ageless state, just as everyone else was. Maybe it was a side effect of the magic you had used.
"Want a cookie, ___?" Asriel asked. You smiled and nodded, reaching out for it. Asriel pulled his arm back. "No! I want to feed you!"
"Asriel..." You sighed, then opened your mouth. Asriel and Frisk had treated you as if you were frail and needed their help for everything. So did Toriel and Asgore. The only one that had really been there other than your family was Undyne.
Speaking of Undyne, she had burst through the door just as Asriel was shoving the cookie in your mouth quite uncomfortably.
"______________! I wanna show you Grillby's new shindig!" She laughed.
"Can we go?!~" Asriel asked, his eyes lighting up. Undyne gulped.
"Uh, well, ah... I was thinking that I'd just... me and _____... would go. I need to talk to her. About some things. Awkward things. That you can't be there for." Undyne tried to break it to Asriel softly. He nodded, his expression sad. His face lit up.
"I understand!" Asriel said, his mood chipper once more. "Me 'n Frisk will go play with Monster Kid. Right, Frisk?" Frisk gave Asriel a confused look. "RIGHT, FRISK?" Asriel elbowed Frisk and Frisk nodded. They both scampered out of the room.
"It's...really been a while, ________. We didn't get to talk much." Undyne laughed. We began to exit the house, putting on our winter things. It was snowing lightly outside, and stars littered the night sky.
"Yeah, I know. Sorry. It's my first few days finally on the surface." You chuckle, staring up at the sky as you walked. You were just drinking in the wonder.
"Heh. There's a couple things I wanted your advice about. Since, y'know, you're human. And whenever I approach other humans, they tend to run away." Undyne seemed a little scared, so you reassured her you wouldn't run away. "Okay. So... A year after...y'know... me and Alphys got married. With a monster ritual, because humans apparently don't like same-gender marriage, let alone monster marriage. And a relationship between a human and a monster is still frowned on."
"That's great! I'm happy for you." You summoned all the enthusiasm you could.
"But it's no longer...happy. After a while, after all of the shaming and anger the humans directed at us, the first married monster couple... Alphys was offered a job at a Science Institute. Which is great, and all, but we barely ever talk anymore. It's like... it's not even a relationship. She just comes home, goes to sleep, wakes up before I do and goes to work. She's acting like a robot. I love Alphys so much, and I want to help her...but she's not letting me." You realized that Undyne was trusting you with a load of information. She probably thought you could fix everything, since you were human. Since... you fixed what happened underground. But, you honestly had no idea.
"Undyne... it sounds like everything is falling apart." You said, attempting to be real.
"Yeah, thanks." She grumbled. "Monsters are starting to fan out. We're not as close as we were underground. Papyrus kind of faded out of touch, and Sans... Well. Sans was mourning for so long that by the time we tried to get in contact with him, he had moved away and changed his number."
"O...Oh.."
Undyne stopped abruptly, and so did you. Her shocked gaze confused you. Your head turned towards where she was looking.
The same skeleton, with the same blue hoodie. On one knee. A box in his skeletal hands, with a sparkling stone. You knew what this was. Proposal. The girl took the ring out of the box, and slid it on her finger and began to cry.
"Sans, yes! Yes... you're everything I've ever wanted. I'd never say no to you. I love you."
"And I love you, sweetcheeks." Sans winked. The girl pressed her lips against the teeth of Sans' skull. Her phone began to ring.
"Damn, it's a call from work... I'm needed..."
"Well, hey. You're a doctor. You save lives. It's cool."
"Thank you, Sans." The girl started to run towards a car, and ended up driving away. Time stopped as Sans began to walk in your direction. You felt your heart smash into a million pieces...
And then he saw you. His eye sockets went black.
"Wh....at...?" He asked, confused.
"H...hey..." You managed. "I'm...back." You are still managing. "But not that you care. After all, all you are...is someone who gives up when the going gets tough." You are no longer managing. "I... there's nothing I can say to the likes of you. Nothing at all." You turned on your heel, and Undyne called after you.
"___________! Please wait! You can't go off on your own, you don't know the area!"
You felt tears spill from your eyes. Sans appeared from the alley in front of you.
"_______.... is it really you?"
You stopped. You couldn't hold back. You gave him the most piercing glare of hatred you could manage. "You have no right to talk to me, you...you betrayer!" Sans was obviously hurt by this comment. He didn't attempt to stop you a second time.
Yep, he always gives up. Too lazy. Too lazy for anything.
You felt yourself being tackled to the ground. It wouldn't be Sans. It wasn't.
Asriel, with Frisk piggybacking, were sitting on top of you. "S...Sister... Why cry? Don't cry! If Sans is being a meanie...then I'll... then I'll!" Asriel was on the brink of tears, probably because of your own emotions.
You began to sob in the snow, unaware that a hooded figure was watching you, and having the same reaction.
"I
never
wanted
you
to
see
that."
But, this was not spoken out loud. Instead, he said it over and over in his mind. He gave up because he thought you were dead, that you would never survive. He lost hope.
And now, he was paying for it.
