"I can't forgive you, Sans. Not yet." You say, and he began to sob. He literally collapsed on you, putting all of his weight there. You wrapped your arms around him, in some attempt to console him.

"I'm so sorry. You don't understand, I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you this much, but I needed to. I needed to do this to save you. If I separated myself from you, if I... just wasn't there, Gaster thought that you'd... just live silently. But you didn't. But you didn't at all..."

You patted him on the back, his fluffy sweater feeling so good on your fingertips. You missed this. You missed Sans confiding in you.

"I was so angry at the other Sans. All of them were getting close to you. Helping you where you couldn't afford to be helped. They were making this so much more difficult and I thought that girl would be enough but then you forgave me and then... I didn't want you hurt. I didn't want you hurt..." He was sobbing quietly.

"We can work with this. We can."

"No, we really can't. Once we leave this hotel, Gaster will be able to see us again." Sans muttered. "If Gaster takes things into his own hands, you will die."

Your heart froze. "What do you mean?"

"He won't show any mercy. He will wreck you." There was a great emphasis on his words. "To save everyone else, he will attempt to stop you."

"Why me?!" You let go of Sans. "Why is it me?!"

"Do you think this is a happy ending? Do you think this is the true ending? If it were right, then the universe wouldn't go insane and attempt to correct it by colliding all the Universes together and hoping it would fix itself. This isn't how our story was meant to go." Sans grabbed your hand. "Gaster believes that to stop the Universe from going insane, he needs to either break your DETERMINATION, or kill you. And he really, really loves you. This is difficult for him. But when it comes to several universes against the woman he loves' life... if it comes to threatening his entire family... what do you think he would do? What do you think you would do...?"

Sans let go of your hand, and backed out of the elevator.

"Sans, wait!" You called out.

"I can't let him do it, _______. I love you. I love you too much to let the world take you away from me, so I'm gonna do what I need to do to protect you."

"Sans...!" You reached for him, but he was gone.

All that was left was an ache in your heart.
