All you can recall was collapsing into muffled sobs, your heart aching for Sans. For something more than what you were. You never wanted to hear his voice again. You never wanted to see Penelope again. There was more and more pain and suffering to be had and he didn't even seem to care. He wanted you both, but he could only have one of you.

Skeletal arms embraced you. A somber face stared down at you.

"G...Gaster..." You sniffle, staring up at him. He smiled weakly.

"Please do not cry. I despise that so.  I always despised when humans cried during experiments, but even out of them...if it is you... do not cry. That is painful for me." He picked you up, bringing you to the downstairs couch where the lights were extremely dim. Gaster brushed his skeletal fingers against your cheek, and draped a blanket over you. He turned to leave, but you grasped the fabric of his coat. He turned back, a curious look on his face. "What is it, ___________?"

"Please...Please stay. Don't leave. Don't....don't abandon me." You whisper. Gaster knew what you were really saying. Don't leave me like Sans did. Don't betray me. Don't make me hurt.

"I... Are you okay with this? You gave me the impression you were not at all interested in anything I had to offer." He said, his voice solemn. You only now realized that you joking around about his feelings could have potentially gave him hopes and broken his heart. Did you have feelings for Gaster? You didn't know. Could you? Yes. But with the way things were with Sans, would being with Gaster fix any of this?

No.

"Yes. Please sleep by my side." Screw it. You were hurting, anyways. If Toriel wasn't there....If Toriel... No. If Sans wasn't there, then he didn't deserve to be there. You were done hunting after him. You were done hurting after him. If he thought he could just switch between girls whenever he liked, he was wrong. Immensely so.

Gaster embraced you from behind, but his whisper was prominent. "Please do not hold anything against Sans... He does not know the human heart like I do."

With that, you blacked out.

You awoke with a jolt. 4:34 AM. Nobody was awake. Nobody was awake, and nobody was there to stop you. You crept out of the sofa, making sure to exert extra strength in not awaking Gaster.

What was there for you? You grabbed a knife.

What was there in anything?

Your footsteps were silent as you walked up the stairs. You felt like a ghost.

There was no hope. There was no future. To think of those things were meaningless. They were pointless. All there was in the world was pain, and suffering.

The bathroom.

You stared in the mirror, terrified to see yourself staring back at you. It was you, but it wasn't you. You winced as the blade cut deep into your flesh, and red blossomed forwards.

One cut,

two cut,

three cut,

four cut.

Help me,

see the,

bright stars,

in the way.

You repeated these words until there were 18 cuts across your arms. You were beginning to feel extremely dizzy from blood loss, and everything was covered in red. On the bathroom floor, you sat in darkness. The lights flicked on, and a yawn came from the doorway. The rattle of bones stopped midway.

"..___________....______________!"

Bony fingers clutched you once again. This seemed to be a natural thing. You felt really, really sleepy. Really, really, really sad.

So, you began to sing.

"And the future... with you...is a thing....I'd like to do... And the future... with you... is the thing... .we promised... to... do..."

"Hold on!" Sans screamed, alerting the entire household. He tried to cover the wound, but to no avail. The blood was still seeping out of you.

"S...SANS... WHAT IS THAT RED SUBSTANCE?!" Papyrus asked, his face full of worry. "SANS, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE HUMAN?!"

Gaster's face was an array of shock.

"P...Pap. Dial 9-1-1. Quick! Tell them it's an emergency! And call Tori! Now...!"

Everything was fading to black, but your memories came rushing back.

One of the timelines.

Sans.

"So, you seem pretty happy today." He said, staring up at the beautiful false stars.

"I, uh, am." You giggle.

"You've kept a lot of promises. Wow, you've shown me how much work that takes. I'm bone-tired. Remind me never to make promises again."

"Sans..." You say, turning to him. "There's something I've wanted to say for a long time now."

"Yeah?"

"I really, really...like you."

"I know."

"What?!"

"You think it's not obvious, there, Kiddo? Besides, I like you too. That's why we hang out, right?"

"No, Sans... I don't mean friend like. I mean... I like you as more than a friend."

"O....Oh!" He began to turn blue. Well, some sort of blush spread across his face. "I, um, wow, aren't I dumb?"

"No. You're pretty smart, actually!"

"You hold me too high in your eyes, Kiddo. You're way too... how do I put it, aaaah... cute."

Your face turned red.  You looked away, staring at a nearby echo flower.

"Hey, Sans..."

"Yeah?"

"Promise we'll always stay like this.... together?"

"Heh. Where else would I go? I promise."

The echo flower repeated the same four lines endlessly. The tidbit of a conversation long gone, a timeline long ago removed from existence.

That timeline didn't exist anymore, but the memory still did.

And the echo flower repeated.
