"There is a time when two people must separate. Not because what one says, but because it is mutually beneficial." -The Twisted White Rabbit
Meanwhile, in my world...
DOVAHKIN, DOVAHKIN, NAAL OK ZIN LOS VAHRIIN.
Ssssssssssssssskyrim. Sssssssssolid like a sssssssssssssssnake. But snakes aren't really solid and- Ugh. Let me just get my Vampire Lord float on.
The hospital lights were bright and blinding. Your third day here, and you still weren't used to it.
Sans stared at you, the normal smile that was usually plastered on his face no longer there. You stared back. He took his hand in yours, but you pulled it away.
"I don't think we should ever see one another again." You say, quietly.
"What...?" Sans' eyesockets widened in shock. Despite the fact he was a skeleton, his bones were a lot alike to skin.
"You heard what I said, Sans."
"But, ______... you know I lov-"
"Oh, shut up. Your privilege to say those words to me is long gone. When you chose her, you lost me."
"But I didn't choose her!"
"I'm sorry to say, but the minute you closed that door in my face you did."
"Is there a problem here?" Gaster asked, entering the room with two steaming hot cinnamon buns. They were placed carefully in his palms.
"No. I was just... just..."
"He was just leaving." You say, with a smile. "Look, Sans. Gaster has promised to take care of me, so there's no need for you to contact me."
You could tell Sans' heart was breaking.
A dark look crossed his face, and he swept out of the room.
"I don't think this is right." You say.
"Thank you for helping, Asriel." Gaster turned to you, but it wasn't you.
"Using illusionary magic to protect my big sister [Okay, even if you're a guy, you're gonna be referred to as sister]... I mean, I'd go that far, but... the look on Sans'...face.. and their wishes... Doesn't that kinda contradict what they want?" Asriel clutched the silky sheets of the hospital bed, and Gaster pulled back a curtain, to reveal the still-sleeping you.
"Asriel, it may not be what she wants, but it's what she needs. And... make sure not to tell anyone. We could both get in trouble." Gaster turned to the door. "I sincerely love my sons, I really do. But... there are some things that must be done for another's protection, even if they may not particularly agree." Wingdings floated in the air around Gaster, as every word he spoke was translated into that language. Even his emotions were displayed upon change, with a smiley.
You began to wake up, everything blurry. Gaster was sitting on one side of the bed, and Asriel on the other.
"Has Sans visited yet...?" You ask, meekly. You were forced to sleep for most of the day, as you had lost a lot of blood and the doctors wanted you to preserve your strength.
"No." Gaster said, smiling sadly. "It seems like he moved the wedding with Penelope to next week."
"W...what...?" You ask, your eyes widening. Your heart felt broken, but it seemed to be the natural response whenever Sans was involved.
"I'm sorry." Gaster said.
"H..hey, Sis. Well, y'see, mom is coming!" Asriel laughed. "She...she's bringing some of that tasty... butterscotch pie..."
You realized Asriel might feel a little sad because of the way you were feeling, so you tried to put on a positive attitude.
"Ah, really?"
"Yeah! And, um, dad is coming too! And Frisk! So is Mettaton, and Undyne, and... Alphys... and... Everyone except for...."
"The Font brothers." You finished for him. He needed to know you were okay. That you could talk about them. Besides, their father was right there. It's not like you held a grudge against their family.
Just Sans.
"I'll call Papyrus immediately, then." Gaster said, and left the room.
"Asriel, why did you get here before the others?"
"Oh! Um! Well, it's been about three days and since mom, dad and Frisk have several meetings to attend to, they left me here!" Asriel smiled at you. "To protect you. I've been doing a good job so far...!" Even though there was a smile on his face, there was a sadness in his voice.
"Hey, Asriel, let's turn on the T.V.!" You pointed to the black screen on the wall. He nodded, and clicked the remote on.
"I'm currently right here at the scene of monster terrorism, where there are massive skulls floating around and destroying buildings!"
Your face fell. Behind the woman, a skull blasted half of a building away. She screamed, and was flung into the air. Her soul appeared... and broke.
You ripped the covers off, and ran out of the room despite Asriel's protests. Why would the Gaster Blasters be tearing down buildings?! Would Sans join a terrorism group?! You ran right past Gaster, who began to run after you, and past your mother and father and Frisk. There were skulls everywhere, and a familiar skeleton standing outside of the hospital, his back to you.
What you didn't notice was how different his clothes looked.
