Chapter 30

Josh POV

Colleen is constantly coughing. She feels terrible. I see the nurses add medication to her lines to get labor started. I bend down to her as she lays on her side. "Ready for Lily?" I say terrified but trying to be optimistic. "I am" she smiles as she pulls me more into her. "Joshua you need to be calm ok sweetheart? We are good. You are going to be a dad soon" she says. I nod tearing up. "Worried about my girls" I say wiping my face. "We are in the best place" she says. I see her squinting as she holds onto me tight. "Oh baby" I say knowing she is starting labor. I rub her belly as she looks at me. "Pray that this is over soon" she says giggling. I text everyone to come to the hospital and Gwen and Rachel are coming to be with us. The nurse walks in and looks at the machine beside Colleen. "Deep breathing Colleen. Your heartbeat is slow because of all the meds" she says. Colleen nods and looks at me while another contraction hits. Seeing her in agony is killing me. I kiss her face and watch the contraction end. "You are rocking this babe" I say. She nods. We sit there and she has a few more contractions until Rachel and Gwen arrive. "Hey sweetheart, doing ok?" Gwen asks Colleen and rubs her back. Colleen is crying. "I can't do this Mom" she cries. I look at Gwen and she looks at me like she has got it covered. "Colleen I have done this four times. It will be over soon. Every contraction is one step closer to Lily ok?" She says. Colleen smiles and grabs onto her as Rachel hugs me. "Rachel I can't see her in pain" I whisper. "Its childbirth Josh. She is safe" Rachel says rubbing my back.

Colleen continues on holding onto me as we sit in a hug for the last 45 minutes. "Baby we are going to be a Mom and Dad sweetheart" I say rubbing her back as she cries into my shoulder. "I know" she whispers. "I am so tired" she adds. I hold her back and look at her face. "You will sleep soon ok?" I say. She nods and lays back and works through another contraction breathing loudly. "Ok Colleen going to see if you are moving along ok?" a nurse says as she checks her. "Jesus!" Colleen screams as I squeeze her hand. She is panting staring at me. "Just breathe babe" I say. Inside I am dying watching her. "Colleen you are at a 9. I will call the doctor" the nurse says. I smile down at Colleen. "Baby we almost have Lily" I say crying as Gwen rubs my back. Colleen puckers up and I lean down and kiss her. "Our years of waiting are almost over" she says. I nod looking at her. This is the most emotional moment of our lives for sure. My baby girl is coming.
