Chapter 48

Josh POV

As the weeks go on I see the colour drain from Colleens face. She is way slower and I see her struggling to breathe sometimes. "Babe" I say to her as she lays on the couch while Lily naps in her crib. She looks back at me as I approach. I sit beside her and rub her legs as she smiles at me. "You are so pale" I say as I rub her feet now. "Pregnancy does that Josh" she says. "I know but this is more than Lily. Are you doing ok?" I ask. "I am ok sweetie" she says. I lean down and kiss her. I love her more than anything. "Hows my baby?" I ask lifting her shirt up looking at her belly. "Good. Growing" she says smiling. I feel along her belly and her belly shifts. I throw my hands off of her freaked out. "Did I hurt you?" I ask. She is laughing. "No babe. Just moving around" she says bringing my hands onto her again. I smile and nod. I rub her belly as she closes her eyes. "You are gorgeous pregnant" I say. "Thanks baby" she says. I love my time alone with her so much. These moments get etched into my memory. I lift her up to stand and we walk to the back door and step outside. We lay down on the lounger under the gazebo together. "Heat today feels amazing" she says to me. "Good. I will go grab us some lunch ok?" I say. She nods as I get up and go into the kitchen. I mix up some salads and sandwiches and head back out with them. I look over to the lounger and don't see her until I notice her hand peaking out from behind the chair on the ground. I place the lunch down and run to her. "Colleen!" I yell as I approach her. "I am good babe" she says as she reaches for me. "You don't look fine Colleen" I say looking her up and down. She has laboured breathing as she smiles at me. "Why are you on the ground?" I ask lifting her up. "I went to set up the table and had to sit down" she says. I nod as I lower her under the umbrella table into a padded chair. "There" she says settled as she sips on lemonade. I grab her food and place it in front of her. "Eat Josh" she says laughing at me getting worried. "I get worried babe. It's not funny" I say getting annoyed. She slides up from her chair and sits on my lap. "Baby" she says grabbing my face as I try and look away upset. "It isn't funny Colleen" I say holding back tears. "Baby. Joshua?" She says forcing me to stare at her. I start to cry. She kisses my lips. "It frightened me babe" I say hugging her. "Sorry babe" she says. "I am safe now with you" she says kissing my neck. Her and my baby's health are my everything.
