It Needs to Happen

Chapter 64

Josh POV

"Go home Colleen" I say as she lays beside me. "No" she says and cuddles into me again. "You need sleep doll" I say squeezing her hand with my better hand. "Joshua I am not" she says and with that I know to drop the subject. Just then my parents and Colleens parents enter into my room after eating something at the cafeteria. They pass Colleen a bottle of water and a sandwich. She sits beside me and unwraps it. She takes a bite and holds it up to me to take a bite. I take a small bite and listen to my parents talk as I chew. I can feel Colleen staring at me with worry. I would be doing the same if the roles were reversed. I close my eyes as she rubs my hand softly until the door swings open. The doctor walks in and all the parents leave while Colleen stands up. "How are you doing Joshua?" The doctor asks as he places down the chart. "Ok" I say smiling. He grabs my broken casted fingers and looks carefully. He looks along my face at all the cuts as Colleen watches. "Just going to check your stomach tenderness" he says lifting my gown as he presses along my stomach. "Ouch" I say tensing up as Colleen grabs my hand. "Ya we saw your spleen was bruised when you were admitted. Hopefully don't need to remove it" he says. "How are your legs?" He asks. "Sore" I say. He lifts the sheets and I see the dressings in them with my knee totally bandaged up. "I will brace your knee once the burns heal a bit" he says lifting my dressings. My leg is burnt. Totally black charred. "These are really bad burns. You may need skin grafts" he says. I nod and see and hear Colleen crying. I squeeze her hand and pull her towards me more. The doctor tells us he will be back tomorrow and to rest. I pull Colleen to sit beside me as he leaves. "Baby I..." She starts saying. "Colleen don't cry" I say smiling. She nods and wipes her face quickly. My parents and Colleens parents come back in and visit for another 1/2 hour before leaving for the night. They are all going back to our house. Colleen pulls a blanket on top of me as the nurse tops up my meds. "Sleep with me please" I say. She nods and carefully lays in my arms as I kiss her head. "Joshua I love you baby" she whispers. "I know doll. I love you too" I say before falling asleep.

I wake up in the middle of the night to a nurse entering my room. She checks my urine bag and looks at me. "Josh there is blood in your urine. Let me just check your stomach" she says pressing onto me again. I quickly grab her hand with tears in my eyes as I flinch. Colleen shoots up. "Babe whats wrong?" She says looking at me crying quietly. "There is blood in his urine. Going to call the doctor" she says as she leaves the room. "Joshua, just relax. You will be fine" she says as she watches me cry clinging onto her.
