Habang mas pinagaganda siya ni Jusan e mas nagagalit siya.
Today's make-over was completely different from last time because that was directed towards getting one up against the conceited Faulkerson Heir while this was solely for his own benefit.
Nagtitiwala si Maine na wala nang gaganda pa sa bestfriend niya mamaya pero she did not appreciate that with RJ's ministrations, she could take away her bestfriend's thunder.
She didn't want anyone fussing over her later.
They're supposed to fuss about Sam and Pat.
"Haaaay Ms. Mendoza... kahit gaano ako kagaling hindi kita mapapaganda" Jusan complained loudly.
That snapped her out of her thoughts and she looked at the mirror. "Ano ka ba Jusan! Halos di ko na nga kilala sarili ko e! You are amazing!"
"Then why are you not happy?"
Maine had a very expressive face, Jusan would surely have seen how angry she was becoming.
She straightened the crease from her forehead and decided to lie. "Uhmmmm... siguro ayoko lang kase talaga pumunta sa dinner mamaya."
The stylist nodded in understanding as he continued to blow dry her hair. "Pero you have been invited and you said yes, didn't you?"
Tumango siya.
"Well... you need to go. You cannot give your ex the satisfaction of thinking that you cannot handle his engagement to another woman."
That made her smile.
Sam wasn't her ex and he would not care in the world at all if she didn't come later unless Pat worried about her absence, she told herself.
"Malamang nga mas matutuwa yun kung hindi ako pupunta."
"Feeling ko he must be looking forward to it kase he is excited to show you how happy he is. Pero pag nakita ka niya mamaya, siya ang magagalit sa sarili niya for letting you go."
If that was anywhere near the truth, Maine was sure it would have felt amazing.
But she loved Pat and Sam.
And despite her heart's treachery, she could only wish the both of them well.
Also, she could only fool Jusan into thinking that his words brought her comfort.
The man knew nothing.
He was but a pawn in this game RJ Faulkerson was playing at with her.
Pinaghandaan nang heredero ang lahat ngayong gabi, it really seems.
At dahil hinatak siya nito from their house nang walang kain o ligo man lang, it was Jusan who had provided her with everything.
He had her take lunch first when she admitted to not having eaten anything at all – apparently a service the center also offers because she took her food in a posh dining hall and food was served by an in-house chef.
She was directed towards the bath house where assistants scrubbed every part of her body clean.
Yun ang unang beses simula noong 5 years old siya na may nagpaligo sa kanya na ibang tao.
The beauty center had facilities not only to bathe their clients but to also provide them massages, facials, scrubs, waxes, hair treatments, nail care, at kung ano ano pang uri nang pag-aalaga sa sarili ang maiisip nang isang babae.
Maine was not at all surprised to see a number of the women she met nung isinama siya ni RJ sa Entrepreneur's Gala around and about the center.
She didn't have a watch with her, a phone, nor even her wallet dahil nga literal na "kinidnap" siya kaninang umaga but there was a clock in Jusan's salon and she saw that she and RJ only had two hours to get themselves to the engagement dinner in Alabang.
