CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT

Kinakabahan si Enzo.

But he hoped this conversation would end well.

He prayed for it.

"Oh Enzo!" it was Maine's older brother, Nico, who opened the door.

"Kumusta?"

"Ok lang. Ok lang" the older man led him inside "Si Meng ang binibisita mo no? Sabihan ko lang yun na andito ka. Upo ka muna dito sa may sala."

"Salamat" he answered with a polite smile.

In his head, he had planned out everything he wanted to tell her.

But he was aware of the situation he was in and knew that he could lose his friend today kung mag-desisyon ito na hindi makinig sa kanya at patuloy nitong ipagtanggol ang boyfriend nito. RJ Faulkerson could be very convincing when he wanted to. He could condition anyone into believing him as an innocent or a victim – kahit ata halaman e kayang kaya nitong utuin.

If Enzo had noticed everything sooner and acted on it, maaari na hindi kakailanganing umabot sa ganito ang lahat.

He heard the patter of feet and looked up to see the one person he had been wanting to talk to for the past days.

"IKAW NGA ENZO!" She looked surprised.

"Oo, Meng, binibisita kita" he answered with a smile and moved to kiss her on the cheek "Busy ka ba ngayon?"

"May kailangan lang akong puntahan sa bayan pero ok lang kahit mamaya na. Kumain ka na ba? Gusto mo ba mag-kape?"

There was heaviness in the air despite how normal they greeted each other.

Hindi pa sila nakapag-uusap tungkol sa nangyari sa Serendra and the shock in seeing him here right now was probably adding more to the tension that she obviously felt.

Enzo had the upperhand here though if it was possible for them to have discussed this without Maine ever feeling like she was being attacked, he would have chosen that course.

Yun nga lang, he had no other option but to spring this to her.

He worried that if RJ got wind of it, he might wrap Maine around his finger.

"Sige. Coffee would be great" he answered now.

IF he gave her time to get her bearings back, this could at least be more comfortable for them.

"Dun tayo sa may veranda" she pointed to him "Antayin mo ako sandali."

As Louise swept their house with her eyes one last time to make sure wala siyang nakalimutan na anumang gamit nang baby nila, her eyes landed on Enzo's phone on the side table sa may foyer.

It was ringing.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Oh! Louise? So may sakit nga talaga si Enzo ano kaya hindi siya ang nakasagot."

It was Rocco, one of her husband's teammates.

Wala ang asawa niya sa office???

It took her a while before she could answer. "Ah... oo, Rocco e. Natutulog siya ngayon para makapahinga."

"Ok. Gusto ko lang kumustahin kase iyon ang sinabi ni Boss kanina. E hindi naman siya nakapag-text sa akin. Anyway, pagaling siya, Louise. Malamang kaya wala din siya sa sarili sa office kase magkakasakit na nga siya."
