When some people sleep, they look as defenseless as little kittens.
They leave every care in the world behind and allow peace set in to their features.
Inisip ni Maine na she shouldn't have expected that from RJ, though. His presence, when awake, was imposing enough to warrant the probability that he would be just as commanding even when in dreamland.
She looked at him now and confirmed what she always thought – he had the face of an angel.
But it wasn't the face of those playful little cherubs you see on church ceilings.
His was like the face of the warrior – St. Michael, the Archangel.
Each line breathed power, the slope of his nose evoked aristocracy, his brows noted strength, and the only thing that might be soft about him were those luscious lips.
"Hon???" Ruru's sleepy voice, asking Gab (who was crouched behind her, facing the other bed), reminded her of her purpose.
"RJ..." she tapped at his shoulder gently, waking him "RJ..."
"Hmmmmm..." he muttered and then ever so slowly opened his eyes.
Tumigil ang puso niya when he looked at her and smiled.
SANTO KRISTO! SANTA MARIA! ANG GWAPO NAMAN NITO!!!!
"KUYA! TUMAYO KA NA DYAN!" Gab's voice rang out right then, shaking RJ awake as effectively as a cold bucket of water.
He then frowned, reached a hand out to touch Maine's face, and then pulled his hand back as if electrocuted and bolted right up.
"Bakit? Bakit kayo nanggigising?" he asked, all traces of sleep gone from his face.
Was he dreaming of her?
He seems to have been a little disoriented at the thought that she was real. Iba ang sayang naramdaman niya at the thought of being in his dreams.
"Tara! Let's watch the sunrise!" she answered enthusiastically.
That made him look out the window to confirm that it was indeed still dark outside. "Ok."
He bit the insides of his cheek at the reminder that he had thought a few minutes ago that Maine was part of a dream.
She was looking at him fondly, hovering over his bed, and he would have reached out to kiss her if his sister's voice had not crashed in like a tidal wave over the moment.
"Kailangan ko mabatukan tong kapatid ko kahit minsan lang" sabi niya sa sarili "Nakalimutan na ata niya paano bumasa nang mood e."
But he definitely had to recognize the fact that Maine in the conscious world would always be, definitely, and absolutely better than the one he had in his dreams.
"Tayo na magluto nang breakfast" Gab was now telling their whole group.
Everyone smirked (except for Maine who didn't know too).
"Habang nakatambay tayo dito at nag-aantay nang sunrise, malamang e nagluluto na sina Mang Gerry nang kakainin" Kris told her.
"HALA! Gusto ko pa man din kayo ipagluto!" his sister looked crestfallen.
"Dapat sinabi mo kagabi Hon na ito pala ang balak mo" Ruru told her "Si Mang Gerry kase maagap pa sa NDCC yun."
"Ayaw nga lang talaga sumama sa akin sa Manila e" Kris commented.
