CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE

She didn't know that RJ now owned a part of T.A.P.E.

Somehow that had escaped all of their conversations.

She wondered why he had not thought of telling her about it but everything they had gone through came to mind and she knew that it didn't matter because knowing who he was and how she had witnessed his struggle in trying to stop her from writing Gab's book, it might have been one of the steps he took and it wouldn't surprise her at all if he indeed had done it for that purpose alone.

The man can be very single-minded in what he wanted.

And he himself admitted that with all the resources he had, it could be very easy to be a cruel man.

Yet it wasn't this that made her slap Enzo but his assumption that she was someone who could be bought, that just because she loved someone is she would be blind to their errors, that she could not think for herself.

Napaisip siya kung sa pagkakaibigan ba nila e hindi pa nito napansin how she had the tendency to overthink everything and thus didn't just get into certain situations without being sure that she was going into them with her eyes wide open.

In this case, she could not say the same for Enzo dahil anuman ang alam nang kaibigan niya ngayon e hindi pa rin nito alam ang kabuuan nang istorya kaya malamang e nabubulagan ito.

"Even if he was my boyfriend or even if he owned the company that publishes my books, I won't say he is a different man if he really isn't a different man. We have been friends far longer than I have known RJ personally. Shouldn't you know me better?"

"I thought that but here you are, slapping me because I had the audacity to tell you the truth."

She did not flinch at the sharpness his tone held.

"I slapped you because I want you to wake up and use your head instead of your heart. There is something you are not telling me Enzo and I want to find out what that is. What is it truly that you have come to tell me about RJ?"

"Meng, he is just using you as a tool. Malamang you will not agree with me at malamang e lalo mong iisipin na puso ko ang ginagamit ko sa sitwasyon na ito but I also know RJ better than you do. I have seen him in his best and in his worst."

"Enzo, hindi mo alam ang buong istorya and I can safely say that the reason you say such things is because of that."

"I KNOW HOW MUCH HE LOVED LOUISE! AND I KNOW TO WHAT LENGTHS HE IS WILLING TO GO FOR HER! HE WAS ABOUT TO MARRY HER. HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THAT? AND KNOWING HIM AND WHAT HE DID TO ME, DO YOU THINK NA GANUN GANUN NA LANG NIYA MAKAKALIMUTAN SI LOUISE AT MAMAHALIN KA?!?"

If those questions had not kept her up nights then Enzo asking them now would have shaken her to her core.

Pero naitanong na niya sa sarili niya mismo ang mga tanong na yun.

Nagawa na din niyang i-express kay RJ ang mga agam agam niya and no matter Enzo's insistence, she knew that RJ had already reached his limits and have laid all of his card down to her.

"Are you thinking that he is using me to get Louise back?"

"Isn't he?"

"Enzo... nothing could be further from the truth."

"Meng, nabubulagan ka."

She took a deep breath. "Hindi ko alam kung ako ba ang nabubulagan Enzo o ikaw. And I do not even know if you are in the right mindset now to listen to me share with you the whole story so you could understand why I am insistent in defending RJ to you. If we continue on the way we are talking now, I'm afraid we could only end up fighting back and forth and not reach a resolution. Sarado ang utak mo and I won't stand down on what I believe in."
