Why couldn't he just leave her alone? Maine wanted to ask the heavens.

The onslaught of tears did nothing to wash away the confusion and hurt she was feeling at being the victim of his game again.

And then it became a lot more complicated with him promising to ruin her in the most hurtful way possible because she was staunch in what she wanted.

Pero he went about it in a weird way.

It seemed to matter to him that she didn't look dejected during the engagement dinner. And in retrospect, when she had time para intindihin at bali-baliktarin ang mga pangyayari during the "almost fight" she had with Enzo, na-realize niya that RJ had defended her.

Kung sakali na totoo nga na may relasyon sila, she didn't owe it to anyone to have to justify it. And if she was going to go for her happiness, she didn't need the approval of her friends because her friends would surely understand – the way Patring had understood kahit alam nito na galit siya kay RJ noon pa man.

Patring had even told her na there must be something good in RJ dahil nagustuhan niya ito. She did not question Maine's sanity. She did not make her feel guilty the way Enzo had.

God.

She missed her bestfriend.

Regardless of the consequences.

She stopped on the side of the road and searched for her phone.

She immediately keyed in the other woman's number.

"Menggay!" There it was, the ray of light, the warmth of the sun, her bestfriend.

"Patring..." she began and before she could stop herself, she let out a growl of frustration and the waterworks opened again.

It has been a long time coming. She was wheezing and heaving and just flat out hysterically crying dahil sa bigat nang lahat nang nararamdaman niya.

"Menggay!!!" her bestfriend's worried tone was like a balm to her soul, something that pushed her to continue to cry "Asan ka? Pupuntahan kita. Sabihan mo ako. BILIS!"

She tried to contain her sobs.

"Paalis na ako! ASAN KA!!!!"

"Sa SLEX" she managed to mumble.

"Ok. Ok. Saan sa SLEX?"

Maine could hear a car door opening and closing, a car engine starting, and felt her heart clench.

Patring was going to leave behind whatever it was she was doing for her – her bestfriend, a bride-to-be in a week – because she was stupid.

Every phrase was punctuated by a hiccup.
