He had very high respect for Sam. The guy was goddamn near perfect and he embraced him with acceptance as soon as he apologized.
RJ Faulkerson could understand bakit minahal ito ni Maine.
Tunay na napakabait nito pero he had no doubt na ang sinasabi ni Sam sa kanya ngayon e kayang-kaya nitong totohanin. Good guys turn in to the worst villains. He had first hand experience in that.
"Hindi mo naman kailangan alalahanin yun kase hindi mo naman siya lolokohin diba?"
The threat was as clear as the sky up their heads, RJ had to stop himself from smiling.
Mahirap matakot sa isang bagay na alam niya na hindi kailanman magiging problema pero kahit magkaibigan na sila ni Sam, it won't do to show the other man a grin right now.
RJ recognized how pivotal it is to assure Maine's best friend of his feelings and intentions and he won't do that with a smile but with the face he puts on during the most critical battles of his life. He might have winged himself into Sam's good graces but he cannot continue relying on the other man's goodwill. He has to prove his worth. "Hindi talaga. Pero kung sakali man na maging tanga ako, which I sincerely doubt but still, I appreciate that you will be there for her. She deserves our protection. She should never get hurt."
That made Sam smile. "Buong buo ang loob mo."
He smiled back. "Sabihin mo kay Maine yan ha?"
THAT made Sam laugh out loud. "Dagdagan ko na din ba? Sabihin ko na sinabi mo na even the end of the world won't push you to cheat on her?"
"Masyadong dramatic, hindi niya paniniwalaan yun."
"Loko loko!"
He laughed now. "Pero kung sabihin ko ba yun kay Pat? Yung linya na dinadagdag mo? Mababawas kaya yung galit niya sa akin?"
Sam became serious again. "Ibang usapan si kumander. Tandaan mo hindi natin siya napa-amo dun sa massage."
Well, totoo yun.
He could understand how two totally unrelated people could come to care for each other like family. He was lucky to have friends in his life who he shared the very same bond with.
"Sam! RJ!"
They both turned to see Maine walking to them.
"Oh?" Sam asked.
"Dumating na ang Lolo at Lola mo" she answered "Sabi ni Pat mamaya na daw kayo magkwentuhang dalawa at samahan mo siya to welcome your guests unless si RJ daw ang gusto mong pakasalan."
Ngumiti si Sam habang umiiling and walked back towards the tent where lunch was going to be served and where most of the guests were going to go to as they start arriving for tomorrow's wedding.
RJ reflected that Pat had to be one of the most colorful people he knew in terms of giving out threats. Kung sakali, he would hire her on that skill alone and put her on negotiating tables for him.
"And you, Mr. Faulkerson, huwag mo i-distract nang i-distract ang groom."
He smiled down at Maine. "I can't really help it if I'm distracting."
