CHAPTER SIXTY

It tugged at his heart to see her crying from joy.

He knew the journey she went through, was instrumental even to the bumpier parts of it, in her acceptance of the wedding between Pat and Sam. And to see her just so happy now and positively beaming, he was thankful that the stars aligned for the two of them.

Hindi siya sigurado na kakayanin niyang panoorin ito na wasak na wasak dahil mahal na mahal pa rin nito si Sam.

RJ would rather take that burden away from her.

Maine Mendoza was such a precious person and he needed to protect her.

"Thank you to our witty best men" the host at the reception cut in his thoughts "And now, we ask our Maid of Honor for her own toast to the bride and groom."

Maine stood up from her seat and took the mic.

"I hope na hindi niyo makakalimutan pareho sa buong buhay ninyo na kaya kayo nagkakilala e dahil sa akin" she began, making everyone in the tent laugh "Seriously, though, I hope you won't forget it because I won't. I am excited about telling other people how such a great couple met because of me. Ikukwento ko yun sa mga anak nyo, sa mga apo nyo, sa mga anak nang mga apo nyo and anyone willing to listen. I love you both so much and I cannot think of any other two people who are as well-matched as you two. Nasa inyo na lahat e... ang wala na lang e theme song."

She signaled to the band.

"Alam ko na wala kayong song for each other dahil lagi kayong nag-aasaran na cheesy yun. So... as a gift, I ask the two of you to stand and dance to this song I have for the both of you."

The first chords for the song began and Maine raised her glass to them and said "Cheers!"

RJ laughed as Sam, initially, wanted to also have Maine dancing along with them but she tiptoed around the two of them and smiled triumphantly as the singer belted out...

Thank you for this moment.

The host then encouraged all the guests to join the Bride and Groom on the dance floor and as RJ watched people troop towards the center of the tent, he headed straight for the radiant Maid-of-Honor.

"Mr. Faulkerson" she greeted him.

He has not had the chance to really look at her up close because she has been at the forefront of the proceedings since the moment she left their suite.

He liked how they kept her hair down and how natural her make-up looked. She looked like a nymph.

"Ms. Mendoza" he answered, stretching his hand out to her, and signaling towards the other dancing couples.

She nodded, took his hand, and allowed him to lead her.

"Baka matapakan kita ha? I don't dance very well in heels."
