I can still remember how everything started. It all started with a phone call. I was at my flat; I just got back from tour. I was finally able to just relax at home, but then I got the phone call.

I sat on the edge of my bed, patiently waiting for everyone to arrive. I had finally finished tour, and my family had decided to come to my flat to visit this time. It’s been a long time since I saw them, so I was excited.

I heard the doorbell ring, and I immediately jumped up. I hurried over to the door, picking up miscellaneous items that I had forgotten to clean up, on the way. I opened up the door and my parents, Greg, his wife, Denise, and their son, Theo had arrived. I grinned and greeted them, motioning for them to come in.

It started with just normal talking. We sat down and discussed how everything had been going. Greg and Denise talked about Theo. Mum and Dad talked about life back home, and I just discussed the tour. It was nice to finally get to see my family.

We ate lunch together, and then Denise put Theo down for a nap, and then came back into the kitchen, where I was cleaning up dishes, with the help of Mum. We finished, then walked back into the living room.

“Hey, Ni, didn’t you say there was a good bar downtown, right? We could go there for a little, then come back here, if you want,” Greg suggested. I nodded, “Sure, let’s go do that.”

“Greg, don’t get drunk!” Denise called, wagging her finger at him. He chuckled, “I won’t, I won’t.”

I walked out of the flat with Greg and we got in his car. It was like any normal car ride. We just talked about our lives, joking every once in a while, who knew that this would be the car ride that would change my life forever.

“Must be nice to finally have some time off, so you can be home, isn’t it?” Greg asked. I nodded, “Yeah, it’s fine to finally be back and I can see you guys more often now.”

“Yeah, it’s great to have you back,” Greg, replied. The car stopped at a red light, and he patiently waited for the light to turn green. Right as it did, he drove forward, and that’s when it all started.

At the same time as Greg drove out, a car on the other lane, was going across the intersection. Greg was driving straight, because the light had turned green, but the lane on which the other car was driving was red. The other car was driving full speed, and suddenly, the car hit ours.

I felt like it was all in slow motion, I can still remember every detail. The details never leave my head. I remember how I screamed at Greg, pointing to the car, but he didn’t have time. The car hit us in a matter of split seconds.

The impact was horrible. The car hit Greg’s side, but it still affected me. I remember seeing the car smash into Greg. There was a look of horror in his eyes, and he immediately fell unconscious, then I was slammed against the car door, and I blacked out, too. That was all I remembered from the car crash.
