“Niall, you know I should be studying…” Emily muttered, as I drove down the road, “Well, then bring what you’re going to study and then study at my place. I promise to not bother you when you study,” I compromised.

Emily sighed, “Fine, I will. But, I know you’re still going to bother me,” Emily teased, sticking her tongue out at me. I shrugged, “Probably, but you’ll enjoy me annoying you,” I joked. Emily giggled, “Of course,” sarcasm filled her voice.

“But, I really am glad for you deciding to stay with me. It’s just hard with my parents. They don’t know how I’ve been suffering from all this and it’s not like I could tell them. I’m really glad I have you, Emily.”

I snapped my gaze away from the road to take a look at Emily. A small smile crept up onto the corners of her lips. She brought her bottom lip between her teeth, trying to hide the immense happiness she felt towards my comment.

My eyes fell back on the road ahead of me. As I drove, I imagined that day from so long ago. They day when I was sitting in the passenger’s seat, while my brother drove the car. With one mistake from another driver, my brother died. That also caused my normal life to die.

Everything from that day on was different from my previous life. Happiness was harder to find, nightmares were repetitive, family was discarded, fans weren’t as important, and love was finally discovered… twice.

“Niall, next turn,” my girlfriend’ voice pulled me out of the thick jungle, also known as my mind, “Sorry,” I apologized for not paying attention. I turned the car and parked in front of the building that contained Emily’s dorm.

I was about to get out of the car, when Emily handed me something. She handed me my beanie, which was resting on the tray between the two seats. I thanked her and pulled it over my dirty blonde hair. I put on a pair of sunglasses, too. The better the disguise, the less likely I am to get found.

I had changed out of my suit and into more casual clothes, so I wouldn’t stand out anymore than I already did. Emily was still wearing her clothes from the court case. We came here so she could grab some clothes and other items to bring to my own house.

We got out of the car and headed to her dorm.

I hated walking down the hallway towards her dorm. I held tightly onto Emily’s hand., annoyed that their were other guys in the hallway. These were college guys, I didn’t even want them looking at my girlfriend.

I knew that people knew who I was. They all knew Emily was dating ‘The Niall Horan’ and they couldn’t help but stare. Fortunately, no one had bothered to come up to me. I was thankful for that.

We finally reached Emily’s room, so we unlatched our hands. She unlocked the door and both of us walked in. I shut the door behind us. Emily headed over to her dresser and pulled out a couple items, shoving it into a duffel bag.

I sat down on the edge of her bed, patiently waiting for my girlfriend to finish up. Emily headed into her bathroom and changed into a pair of tan jeans, a thick sweater, and a patterned scarf. A pair of laced boots lay outside of the bathroom door. Emily hopped on one foot as she struggled to put on the second boot.

“Emily,” I whined as she took forever to get ready. I held out my arms as a way to motion her to come to me. Emily groaned and I laughed, “Don’t you love me, baby?” I joked. Emily rolled her eyes and walked into my arms.

I pulled myself up to my feet and kissed the tip of her nose. Emily kissed my lips and I backed her up against the wall. I pressed my palms against the wall on either side of her head. Emily’s arms wrapped around my neck. I pressed my lips against hers. The amazing feelings spread through my chest. I could feel that we were more than just one small kiss.

My tongue pushed through her lips and I enclosed the space between us. Our bodies molded together, melting into one. We were one person right now. We were one.

Our lips moved in sync, like we knew exactly what we were doing. It was perfect. It was bliss. It was heaven. Then, it was interrupted.

“Hey Em-” The door had opened up, and a guy’s voice filled the room. Emily and I immediately parted. Emily’s face was now bright red and we both turned to see who it was.

It was some guy. He looked like a college student. He had brown hair, combed up in the front. He had on a button-up shirt and pair of jeans. He looked like any other college guy, except nerdier.

“U-Um, sorry,” he apologized, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. His face was bright red. He looked more embarrassed than us. Well, at least me. Emily looked like she was about to die, “I-I’ll just go and we can talk later, Emily,” he said, starting to back out of the room.

“What were you going to talk about with Emily? And who are you?” I asked.

“Oh, um, I’m Jacob,” he answered. He looked really nervous when he spoke to me. Well, he should be. His presence is starting to piss me off. I hated the idea that some random college guy walks into my girlfriend’s room without even knocking.

“Why did you just walk in without knocking?” I asked. I saw Emily shoot me a look out of the corner of my eye. I ignored the look anyways, “It bothers me to know that some random college guys are coming into my girlfriend’s room without even knocking before.”

“Sorry, I was just dropping off some worksheets,” he apologized. He didn’t seem very apologetic, mostly confused, “Sorry, knocking kind of slipped my mind. It won’t happen next time.”

“Oh, I know it won’t happen next time,” I threatened, angrily clenching my fist. Don’t get me wrong; I wasn’t actually going to hit him. I don’t need any more bad publicity. I was just going to scare him.

Instead of Jacob responding, Emily walked over to him. She took the stack of papers from him, quietly mumbling a thank you in reply, “Thanks Jacob, I’ll talk to you at the meeting, okay? Sorry about Niall…”

She’s apologizing about me? I’m the one trying to get this prick out of here! He’s the one just walking into her room without even knocking! ‘Oh, I forgot’, that’s a load of crap! Why can’t Emily just let me get mad at him?

“Thank you, Emily,” Jacob replied to her, “Sorry about forgetting to knock… Oh, and sorry for interrupting you two,” of course he’d bring that up. Emily’s face turned bright red, “U-Um-” Emily stuttered out, and I quickly helped her out, “Thanks for dropping it off, you can go now.”

Jacob nodded, “See you at the club meeting next week,” he smiled. Emily weakly lifted her hand up to say goodbye. Her face was still red. Jacob waved and left the room, shutting the door behind him.

“Who the hell was that?” I quickly sputtered out, as the door closed.

Emily was about to say something, but I interrupted and continued my previous accusation, “I-I had no idea that guys just randomly walked into your room without knocking!”

“Ni-” She began, but I wasn’t in the mood to hear her argument, “I really trusted you, Emily! I didn’t think you would just betray me for dicks like that!”

“Niall, let me-” and once again, I interrupted her, “I put everything I have in our relationship! You just waste everything we had? I know that dating a celebrity can be difficult, but I actually believed you were willing to overlook that!” I let out a breath of hot air and threw my arms in the air in frustration. Emily took that chance to try and speak again, “But-”

“What does he have that I don’t?” I raised my voice to a yell, “Tell me why the hell you want to date a fucking dork like him! Why don’t you tell me that, Emily?”

“Niall, Jacob is gay,” Emily finally said.

I immediately fell silent. My jaw dropped open and Emily was attempting to look at me with a serious look, but it really wasn’t working. She burst out into hysterical laughter.

“W-Wait, he’s gay?” I stuttered out. Emily nodded through her laughter. Emily was practically on the floor laughing. Her hand gripped the doorknob for support.

I rolled my eyes, “Yeah, yeah, I get it,” I mumbled, “I’m a jealous idiot, I know. I should’ve listened to you in the first place before I accused him of anything… and I’m sorry,” I let the apology pour out quickly, trying to get it over with.

Emily finally stopped laughing, “It’s fine, but I don’t think Jacob is going to want to talk to you ever again!” Emily let out a laugh, but quickly stopped when she saw my expression.

“What was all that about anyways?” I asked, “Why did he give you those papers? You guys mentioned something about a club, I think, and some sort of meeting… are you two in a club?”

Emily’s face turned red again. She hid her face in her hands and shook her head. I chuckled and took a step closer to her. I smiled and wrapped my arms around her waist, “What’s so embarrassing about this club of yours?”

“You’re going to think it’s lame!” Emily whined. I shook my head and kissed her temple, “I promise to not make fun of you,” I compromised. Emily finally unhooked her hands from her still-red face, “U-Um, I’m in math club.”

I bit my lip so hard that I could taste blood. My lips started quivering, so I quickly covered my mouth with my hand, but I couldn’t help but laugh. Emily hit my arm, “Hey, you said you wouldn’t make fun of me!”

“I’m not making fun of you!” I protested, “I’m just laughing!”

Emily rolled her eyes and lightly pushed me, “Niall, you could be nicer, you know!” she whined. I quietly laughed and wrapped my arms around her body, holding her close to me, “I’m sorry, babe, you just don’t look like a nerd.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” she laughed. Emily pecked my lips and then I pulled away, “We probably should get going back,” I said, a little disappointed, but I knew I needed to get back to my parents. Emily sighed, but nodded, “Yeah, you’re right, let’s head back.”

And with that, we headed back to my flat.

*

“Hey, we’re back!” I called as I walked in with Emily. My arm was securely wrapped around her waist. I kissed her cheek from the side and pulled her closer to me. Emily giggled and rested her head against my chest.

We both headed into the living room. I frowned when I saw the empty coffee mugs around the table. I frowned again, “What happened to them?” I mumbled, mostly to myself, but Emily answered, “Maybe they went out for a walk or something, we did take a while.”

I slowly nodded in agreement, “Yeah, that could be so,” I mumbled, “But, they could be somewhere in this house. I would’ve thought they’d left some sort of note, but I guess not,” I linked my hand with Emily’s, “Let’s look around.”

Emily nodded and we walked out of the living room and down the hall. We opened each door, but ended up finding nothing. We went down to my bedroom and saw the light from the room was peering from under the bottom of the door. I frowned and led Emily towards my room and pushed the door open.

I saw the rest of my family in my bedroom. My mum was sitting on the edge of my bed sobbing as she held a piece of paper. Denise was clutching onto her son. Then, my dad… he was holding the knife I had hidden away in my nightstand drawer.
