“He broke up with her?” I asked, shocked. Emily nodded, “Yeah, the thing is, she wouldn’t tell me why. She was just so mad. Vanessa was yelling and throwing things around our dorm… and I can’t figure out what happened. I tried to ask her why Harry broke up with her, but she would just yell at me to shut up… Something big must’ve happened. Vanessa never gets this mad. I was wondering if you might know.”
“No, I have no idea,” I truthfully answered, “Do you know when that happened? When did Harry break up with her?”
“Just this evening,” Emily answered. Well, I was hanging out with Asher and Jo this evening, so I guess Harry must’ve broken up with Vanessa after the concert. I just wonder why.
I pulled out my phone, “I can call him if you want,” I replied. Emily nodded, “Only if you want. You don’t have to,” she answered. I went to Harry’s contact, “No, it’s fine. It’s no big deal,” I answered, as I pressed call. I put my phone up to my ear, listening to the ringing. Finally, Harry picked up, “Hello?” he deeply mumbled into the phone.
“What happened between you and Vanessa?” I immediately asked. Now that I think about it that probably sounded rude…
Harry sighed, “Come on, do we have to talk about this now? It’s… It’s kind of private. I’ll tell you later, I’m just trying to recover from it right now, okay? I got to go, bye.” Harry hung up before I could say anything else.
“Well, he won’t tell me,” I answered, shoving my phone back in my pocket. Emily sighed, “I don’t know what it is, but it seems pretty serious. If you find out, can you call me?”
“Sure, no problem,” I noticed that Emily was about to leave, so I spoke up, “You can come inside for a little, if you want,” I offered. Emily shook her head, “No thank you, but thanks for the offer. I really need to go make sure Vanessa is okay. You can call or text me if something comes up. Bye Niall.”
“Bye Emily,” I answered, and she walked away to her car. I unlocked my door and walked into my flat.*
“Yeah, I’m going to the U.S. today,” I told Jo on the phone, “It’s just going to be for a day, so we can go on a talk show to talk about the tour and other stuff like that. I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon, because of the plane ride.”
“Well, okay, don’t stay too long there,” Jo joked to me. I quietly laughed, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”
“Can I like call or text you while you’re gone?” Jo asked. The question made my eyes light up. She wants to talk to me while I’m gone. I know we aren’t dating, but just being able to talk and text her makes me happy, “Of course you can. Call me or text me as much as you want.”
“Okay, I will,” she answered. I glanced at the clock. It looks like I’m going to have to catch my plane ride soon, “Hey, I gotta go, Jo. I’ll talk to you later. Call or text me anytime.”
“Thanks, I will. Bye Niall,” Jo replied and ended the call. I shoved my phone back in my pocket, and grabbed my suitcases. I guess it’s time to go to America again.*
“Why can’t you tell anyone, Harry?” I desperately wanted to know what happened between him and Vanessa, but he wouldn’t tell anyone. Now I’m just sitting on a plane begging Harry to tell me. He won’t say anything, though, but I haven’t given up. And, we’re close to getting off the plane now. So, I’ve been begging Harry to tell me for six hours…?
“Niall, please just shut up,” he begged. I sighed and leaned back into the chair, “I don’t get why you can’t tell me; it makes no sense.”
“Niall, it’s private, okay?” he snapped at me. I decided to just say silent. I think whatever happened seems pretty big. He seems pretty hurt by it. Does he regret breaking up with Vanessa? Or is there some big story behind their break-up? I think I should just stop pestering him, and then he might tell me when he’s ready.
“Sorry,” I apologized. Harry nodded, “It’s fine…”
Harry leaned back against the chair, closing his eyes and slowly fell asleep. I guess I should just relax and wait for us to reach America.
