20. too fast too dangerous

     I watch as Lexis, Reid and the other drivers get in their car. The rest of the crew and I walk closer to the start line to have a better view.

My eyes make its way to Lexis whose eyes are on me. I bite my lips. He smirks and looks forward.

"Go!" A man with tattoos says bringing down his handkerchief.

      Have you ever heard that saying while watching superman; Faster than a speeding bullet? That defines this. One second they were in front of us and the next they were all gone with the wind.
My eyes widen in shock. People are cheering. All around it's going crazy with screams, each cheering their favorite. The girls huddle up around Lucas, Jess pulls me next to her. Lucas is holding an iPad through which we can see the race.

"How are you doing that?" I ask.

"Shhhh later, just enjoy," Jess says. I stay quiet observing.

    Reid is leading. I look for Lexis. He is third in line. Behind a red car. I bite my lips.

They speed across a red light. I wrap my arms around my body. Cars are on the street but they drift past them.
They keep going. A green light comes up. Immediately after which a red light comes on. Reid had passed the light while green but Lexis comes up at the red light not stopping. A truck comes his way from the left side of the street. I gasp grabbing onto Jessica's arm. He drifts to the right escaping by an inch and I let out a large sigh of relief. Zane and Jess chuckle at my reaction but I ignore them eyes trained on Lexis whom I was now sure was crazy or out to die.

He passes the light and gets on the express way with the others. Like a person suddenly awoken from slumber. He suddenly speeds up catching up with the red car. The car keeps blocking his way. He reduces, allows some distance between them then starts going in full speed after the red car not stopping.

"What's he doing?!" I say in shock. As he reaches the car on full speed. The red car drifts to the side realizing Lexis had no intention of stopping. As the car drifts to the side to avoid impact, Lexis speeds up, drifts, blocking the car not giving it an opportunity to block him and exceeds it.

He keeps going giving the red car a huge distance. He turns entering a regular street and passing a red light. He comes next to Reid and speeds past him. He turns through another street avoiding the cars. Reid drives up and passes him.

"Noooo!" I scream and quickly cover my mouth realizing what I just did as all eyes focus on me. They start laughing and return to watching the race. I smile and focus on the race. They pass a red light.

"Last lap," Lucas says and they all focus on the screen. Reid is leading. He goes smoothly. Speeding while Lexis seemingly not bothered drives fast but at a lesser speed.

"They're coming!" Jess says and Lucas turns off the iPad as all eyes focus on the street in front of us. Who would it be? Reid was leading but Lexis was crazy, he chose the most dangerous times to speed, drift and act. I hear the sound of cars approaching.

     They both come up next to each other. Seconds away from the finish line. Lexis drifts, so does Reid but Lexis is quicker, sharper and more dangerous, almost as if throwing himself out for death hence, he surpasses Reid and crosses the finish line. Everyone starts jumping rushing to their cars. I stand rooted to my spot. I was mad. I was happy, I was a mix of emotions I didn't understand. Why did I care if Lexis wanted to kill himself? Why did I care that he was in danger, why did I care that he won? Why did he have such an impact on my emotions? Why was it confusing?

Why why why? I close my eyes.

As I open it, a tear falls down. I raise my hands to wipe it off but a hand holds mine. I look up to see Lexis standing in front of me. Looking at me as if trying to dissect a human body.

"Why?" He asks raising an eyebrow.

I hit his chest.

"You're crazy! You could have died!" I say hitting his chest again.

He holds my hand and pulls me closer to him, bends and presses his lips against mine.

Goodness this was the hardest chapter to write, I wanted a kiss but other ideas kept coming that would have held back the kiss so implementing it wasn't easy. But I needed the kiss to happen now to go according to the books plan lol.
