Cloning

(Confession, this isn't my idea. Got it off a honeyphos fanfiction I read, which I WOULD link... If I could remember who wrote it or where I read it. If you're the person who wrote the original fic, lemme know and i'll credit you)

Mark was absolutely terrified. His master clone, the clone that let him come back to life after he died, was destroyed. He'd been surprised when the clone had saved him from death after the first time, thankful the second time, and happy the third. But now he was looking over at a withered form, that couldn't be used again. One of the scientists walked over to him, resting a hand on his shoulder

"I'm sorry this happened" he sighed, and Mark nodded miserably "but you know, we can get a new one"
This got marks attention as he quickly span around to look at the man. "Seriously! Well, l-lets do it!" He said excitedly, as his hope was restored.
"Yes but sir" marks face dropped again "the problem is... We'd have to freeze YOU as the new master clone"
Mark shook his head quickly "w-well that's ok? I-I mean, as long as I can stay alive then..."
"Well yes" the scientist sighed miserably "but there's a high chance you'd not remember anything from the last 2 years."
"W-what" Mark spluttered "but..."
"I'm sorry, 2 years ago is the most of the memories we can successfully pull from the clone"
Mark sighed "I... Ok.but I need time because" he blinked hard, fighting tears back "I have to explain it to him
The man nodded. "Just come in when you're ready" he held out his hand and Mark shook it
"Ok, thank you"

When Mark walked into his apartment, he was greeted by his same energetic boyfriend, and the moment he saw jacks's smile, he broke into tears
"Mark! What's wrong?" Jack asked, terrified "are you ok!"
Mark shook his head and lead Jack to their lounge "no, I-I'm not" he whispered, but Jack heard and curled against him
"Well... What's the matter?"
"It's the clone Jack. It's destroyed! T-they can make another but"
"But what! Mark if they can make you live forever, that's great!"
"Jack I won't remember anything from the last 2 years"
Jacks face paled in realisation and tears fell from his eyes "but... W-we got together last year"
Mark nodded gravely and wrapped his arms around Jack "I don't want to forget. But... Jack it's the only chance I have of living past this damn infection" he felt jacks grip on him tighten "if we can do this again, I'll be able to die with you. Not years and years before"
Jack sobbed quietly into marks shoulder "but, I need you! Y-you can't forget m-me"
Mark carefully moved jacks head and wiped his eyes "I won't forget you. I'll never forget you." Mark sighed "we met 4 years ago remember? I just-"
Jack cut him off sadly "won't remember us"
Mark smiled, despite the tears leaking down his face "then you'll need to remind me"
Jack nodded "ok"

They spent a week more together, cramming everything they could into those 7 short days. When it was finally time, Jack came with Mark to the cloning bay.
"Well mr fisbach, are you ready?"
Mark slipped his hand out of jacks and nodded, moving away and stepping into the tube.
"Freezing will take roughly 2 minuets, anything to say?"
Mark nodded and placed his hands on the closed glass door "I love you Jack. Make sure you make me remember that!"
Jack ran over and put his hands over marks on the other side of the glass.
"I swear I will! Mark, I love you."
"I'll see you later Jack, ok? Buh-bye"
Jack laughed sadly "of course you end it like that."
And with that, Mark was frozen, and Jack was left crying, his hands pressed desperately against the glass
