Erza's P.O.V
We ran through the streets of the town, which had narrow rock pathways and large, beige-colored, brick houses. We ran through a flee market, dodging tents and civilian bodies along the way. We kept at this for awhile, until we entered a quieter part of town. A place where not many people lived, but houses were being built to accustom for the rise in population.
Jellal ran too fast, twisting and turning through the tight passages, and eventually disappeared from sight. Without thinking, he leapt at the opportunity to strike down evil once again. "That idiot," I muttered, trying to keep up with him.
'He's still my idiot,' I thought contently, putting my negativity aside for the moment. I couldn't tell if I was upset because I missed hugging him, or if I was annoyed he didn't wait for us to keep up.
Either way, maybe tonight after this all blows over we'll get another hotel room, and stay up talking, or joking, or something like that. It was already dark, and I was growing extremely tired. Especially after our training today. Maybe we could just cuddle...
Yea, that sounds good...
"What do you think Jelly-kun felt?" Meldy asked, following me closely. Her speech threw me out of my 'cuddling Jellal' daydreams and back into reality. As she waited for me to reply, her pink hair swayed chaotically when she ran, tracing the bounce of her footsteps like a repeating pattern.
"It must've been the usual, you know how urgent he is. It's not hard to believe he'd leave us behind to go and battle a dark magic wielder," I reassured her.
We turned a corner, that led to a long street. I halted in my tracks, and held my arm out to stop Meredy from going any further either. "Wait," I said sternly, looking around carefully.
"Is something wrong?"She asked, now standing still behind me. Her voice was slightly worried, and I listened as she panted from running.
"Someone's here. I can feel it," I replied coolly, moving my eyes from one shadow to the next. I checked the rooftops, to no avail. I glared at half-constructed buildings and the emptiness of the street before us. "Show yourself," I called bitterly, waiting for the presence I felt to introduce themselves.
In the distance, I heard heavy footsteps emerging.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
They were getting closer and closer at a steady pace, but I couldn't see where they were coming from.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
I turned my head avidly, desperately trying to see who it was as the steps quickened. It was dark, and getting cold outside. The wind brushed through branches of trees and sent a shiver down my spine.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
They continued, instilling fear within me. In my peripherals I caught a glimpse of something moving.
Thump. Thump.
I whipped my head in the direction I saw them coming from. In the shadows, a figure stood prominently. Unmoving, I saw their grin gleam against the moonlight. Familiar lips curling into such a bloodthirsty expression caused my heart rate to increase.
I knew from their blackened silhouette who it was.
"Er...Za," His voice croaked, sounding entirely inhumane. He stumbled closer to me through the shadows; as he did I felt true darkness stain the air. My eyes widened in complete horror.
"N-No... No, that's not you. It c-can't be," I stuttered, my bravery leaving my body.
Thump.
