Chapter 5

An ear splitting alarm echoes through my bedroom and I slam my hand down forcefully on the bedside alarm clock. Why the hell did I set an alarm this morning again? Oh shit, yeah. I needed to go shopping for my so called date this evening. Is it even a date, because technically I'm being bribed or forced.

Whatever.

Luckily, I already have a decent dress that I can wear from my shopping trip with Travis yesterday, but I do need accessories. Am I listening to myself? I sound so shallow.

When I go inside the huge mall I walk absently, unsure of what stores to go into. Shopping had never been much of my scene. Scanning around, my eyes landed on a store with bright lights and loud music. Forever 21. Walking into the store, I make a beeline straight towards the accessories. Skimming over the earrings, bracelets, bows, and sunglass, I look for something that would boost my outfits appearance. That's when I see it.

An elegant bracelet that had the exact colors of my dress, it would perfect my outfit. Instinctively, I reached out to the perfect bracelet cuff. The cold metal of the bracelet grazed my fingertips and before I could grasp the accessory another hand knocks into mine. My eyes rip away from the bracelet and meet the gaze of a brunette girl around my age.

"Well hi." I say bluntly, in a semi sarcastic tone. The brunette raised her eyebrows at me, as if to challenge my motives. If only she knew that this bracelet was the final piece to my outfit for my outing with Harry.  She wouldn't stand a chance.

"Oh, 'scuse me..." She said in a bitter tone as she grabs for the bracelet. Before she could take it, I slid the bracelet away from her grasp and into my hand. "Did you not just see me reaching for that bracelet?" The girl challanged me. I gave a theatrical gasp.

"Oh sorry, is this what you were reaching for? Well, I already got it so I guess you'll have to find something else..." I said, not even attempting to cover the bitchiness in my tone. The girl scoffs and rolls her eyes, taking a step closer to me.

"You're kidding." I purse my lips, raise my brows, taking a step closer to her as well.

"Listen, I have a date tomorrow and this bracelet just so happens to fit my dress perfectly. I'm anything but kidding." I tell her. What the hell. Did I seriously say a date? Before I had time to correct myself, the girl blinks heavily.

"Fine." She groans. "Dammit I need a teal bracelet!" The girl says and I can't help but laugh to myself. She reminds me an awful lot of Angelyse. The girl gives me a sideways glance, "Got a picture of your dress?" She asks, and I shake my head no. Instead, I start describing the dress to her.

"Sounds chic." She declares and I laugh.

"It is. Do you think chic is appropriate for a first...date?" I ask and she smiles a pretty smile.

"Yeah, he'll love it. You were right, the bracelet is seriously perfect for that dress. There's a purse a few stores over that would work with it too, I could show you if you want?" The girl babbles and I force a smile.

Honestly I couldn't care less about that damn purse. Like I said, shopping isn't much of my scene. But I've got a feeling that I'm gonna be stuck in Dallas for quite some time, and it'd be nice to have a friend around.

"That'd be fantastic." My mouth speaks before I could give my response anymore thought. The girl's pearly white teeth flash in my face and she grabs my wrist dragging me to the check out counter so I could quickly pay.

Once I paid for the bracelet me and the girl, whose name I learned is Scarlotte. walk towards the exit. We walk through the mall together, until we come across the store that she had mentioned.

After I bought the small clutch purse that Scarlotte had recommended, we swapped numbers and went our separate ways after Scarlotte made me promise her to give her an update on my... outing with Harry.

**

Two blue eyes stared directly into mine as I stood before a mirror scrutizing my entirety. That's it. I'm not going. This was a stupid idea to begin with. I'm not sure what I was thinking agreeing to go with Harry in the first place. My hand reaches for my phone and I began typing a message.

*Sorry, I can't come.*

A long sigh fell from my lips and I hit the backspace button several times instead of sending the message. I can't bail out on him, I'm not that mean... I shove the bathroom door open and throw myself onto my bed while making exaggerated groaning sounds. I'm so consumed in my groaning that I don't even hear my bedroom door creak open and Aunt Jocelyn enter.

"You okay?" Her soft voice asks from behind me, and I practically jump out of my skin.

"Holy shit Aunt Jocelyn!!!" I scream and she explodes into a fit of laughter.

She chokes out an apology. "What are you so jittery about Karleigh, I've never seen you this way?" Aunt Jocelyn says, her voice filled with curiosity.

"Well there's..." I trail off. "Okay so...umm. I was..." I can't stop stuttering.

One of Aunt Jocelyn's hands flies up to cover her mouth, preventing herself from laughing aloud. I inhale deeply before trying to explain myself again.

"I was invited out on a...date, outing, type of thing. Tonight. With a boy, his name is Harry..." I managed to say in a slightly shaky voice. Aunt Jocelyn was beaming, her eyes lighting up the room.

"I'll help you with your hair!" Aunt Jocelyn said in an excited tone that makes me want to vomit. Before she can start on my hair, I grab my outfit from the closet and lay it out across the bed. From the look on Aunt Jocelyn's face, I'm guessing she approves of the dress.

I glance at the time on my cell phone screen as I rush to apply the finishing touches to my make up. The screen reads 7:04pm.

Where is he? Calm down, it's fine. You don't really want to go anyways. I remind myself. Suddenly a loud chime sounds throughout the house and I instantly know its the doorbell. My heart starts to race but I'm not quite sure why, I don't even really want to go on this date. Liar. My subconscious screams at me and I cringe at my internal battle. From the living room I hear voices, which I assume to be Aunt Jocelyn and Harry.

From the corner of my eye, my reflection grabs my attention. The full view of my outfit looks amazing, so did my hair which is now pulled back in a teased ponytail with a braid, thanks to Aunt Jocelyn.
