Chapter 10

I walk into Aunt Jocelyn's house feeling slightly giddy from my time with Harry. A large smile is plastered on my face as I cut through the living room to get to my bedroom. A throat clears and I freeze not expecting for anyone to have been home. A set of blue eyes stare at me and I'd imagine Aunt Jocelyn probably thinks I look like an idiot with this cheesey grin glued on my face.

"You look...energized?" Aunt Jocelyn says while trying to watch her words. That's when I noticed another figure in the kitchen with her. I nearly choke as I recognize the familiar woman with dark brunette hair. We make eye contact and I know she recognizes me as well. "Um, hi? I'm Karleigh..." I take a few steps forward and extend my hand to introduce myself. She politely takes my hand and shakes it just as Aunt Jocelyn begins talking.

"Karleigh, this is Anne, she's a good friend of mine." There's a mischievous glint in her eyes and I get a feeling that Aunt Jocelyn knows about my run-in with Anne, when she almost gave me a ticket. She said they were good friends, so why wouldn't Anne tell her about the time she pulled me over? "Nice to meet you Karleigh." Anne says while giving me a genuine smile. I give her an uncomfortable smirk before turning on my heels and walking out of the room without a goodbye.

When I get back into my room, I'm not quite sure what to do so I decide to call Angelyse on Skype. My back stays pressed to my bed as I wait for Angelyse to answer her laptop. Just as I'm extending my hand to close my laptop, Angelyse answers, wrapped in a towel, hair drippin wet.

"Hi. Sorry. I was in the shower, obviously." She says while gesturing to her moist appearance. "I ran as quickly as I could, when I saw it was you calling." She adds with a smile, and I realize how much I've actually missed my best friend. "Damn, I've actually missed you." I say with a grin and Angelyse rolls her eyes. "Don't seem so shocked. So when are you coming back? Before summer ends right? You're not going to college there are you..." Angelyse drowns me with questions.

A blur of movement is all I can see, as Angelyse gets dressed and wraps her damp hair in a towel. Involuntarily, I let a sign escape my mouth. "I dunno Ang, I don't want to think about everything. I still have a lot of summer left and I don't--I just don't wanna think about it." I ramble while pressing my fingertips into my closed eyelids to relieve some of the pressure. Angelyse slumps over slightly as she takes in my words and I can see she feels the same way about this as I do. "I don't even want to go to college." I mutter very low under my breath, but she doesn't hear me. Thank god.

"On a different note, I kissed Harry." My mouth spits out before I can think to stop it. Her brow furrows and she purses her lips.

"Who is Harry?" Angelyse asks. I giggle at her ignorance, when just a few short days ago she was saying Harry was my "lifelong lover".

"The boy who hit me with the book..." I trail off as I refresh her memory.

"YOU KISSED HIM!!" Her voice is extremely high pitched, even through the computer speakers. "Shut the hell up, Ang. Yes, we kissed... on accident. It was nice though." I admit, embarrassingly. Angelyse claps her palms together at an incomprehensible speed. "I so called it. Omg. I should become one of those cool psychic-medium girls! So tell me tell me tell me! I want details." Her sentence comes out in one breath, which I find almost impossible.

Raising my shoulders and dropping them back down, I smile at my beloved best friend. "Well, I went over to his house, which by the way he has this awfully annoying roommate named Niall. Anyways, we were in his room and then he just starts rambling about how he loves all these random things about me that I didn't think anyone even noticed." I say, feeling slightly embarrassed.

Angelyse was gaping at me with her hands on each side of her face, her mouth hung open.

"Stop." I mumble.
