Chapter 42
Karleigh's POV
My lips part and I try to find the right words to say. Unfortunately, I can't seem to form a sentence and I stand here gaping at Harry like an idiot.
"Uh...what are you doing here?" I manage.
From the corner of my eye, I can see my mom eyeing Harry approvingly. She's probably just glad he's not like most of the sketchy people I hung out with back home in Atlanta.
Harry gives me his most charming smile, putting his dimples on full display. My heart picks up speed, and I know he's doing this on purpose, flustering me.
"Oh I'm sorry Karls, is this a bad time? I was in the area and I figured I'd stop by, I should've called." He says, his award winning smile leaves me speechless.
Once again I'm at a loss for words, and my Mom steps in to save the day...or wreck it. "Of course it isn't a bad time, we were just on our way out to dinner. You should join us." My mother suggests, her blue eyes flicker between Harry and I.
"Actually Mother, he can't come to dinner with us because--"
Harry cuts me off before I can reject my Mom's idea. "I'd love to, let me grab my jacket from my car." Harry vanishes from the doorway, and I immediately turn to scowl at my Mother.
"What?" She feigns confusion, a devious smirk glued on her lips. "Is that him, the boy your dating?" Curiosity is clear in her voice.
"We are not dating." I am seething, I hate when she pulls stunts like this. Her and Aunt Jocelyn are very alike in this way, they're both compulsive schemers.
"Oh please, I heard the way he called you 'Karls' I can see the way he looks at you." My mom insists and I stomp my foot like a two year old. Her eyes widen at my childish gesture, but before I can say anything, Harry is walking back up to the doorway wearing a sexy leather jacket.
Drool pools in my mouth, and I fight the strong urge I have to start panting.
"I'm Harry, by the way." Harry politely reaches his massive hand towards my Mom and shakes hers. When his hand falls back towards his side, it catches mine and he entwines our fingers. The action doesn't go unnoticed by my Mother, and her annoying smile grows.
"I'm Catherine." She formally introduces herself, and I literally feel as if I'm living out a nightmare. "Alright, let's get out of here before I spontaneously combust." I grumble, leading Harry by the hand to my Aunt's car.
Harry's POV
Catherine is polite enough, and fairly young if I may say so myself. Her eyes are nearly identical to Karleigh's, but there's something in Karleigh's that draws you in more, Karleigh's eyes are more intriguing. Karleigh and I sit in the back seat of Jocelyn's car. Catherine slide a disc into the CD player, and I'm almost certain that the album is by the Hot Chili Peppers.
"Is this the Hot Chili Peppers?" I ask Catherine, and a wide smile grows on her face. Her smile is identical to Karleigh's, but Karleigh's smiles are more meaningful, probably because she doesn't do it very often.
"Indeed it is, my husband used to love them." Catherine informs me, and I can see Karleigh shake her head slightly in annoyance at the mention of her father.
I clutch her dainty hand tighter, in encouragement. For the third time since I arrived at her house, I allow my eyes to roam over her body. God, is she beautiful, even with this look of aggravation plastered on her face. Karleigh turns to look at me and catches me checking her out, a seducing smirk appears on her face and she raises and eyebrow at me. I wink at her, and she returns the action, sending my heart into a frenzy.
She leans closer to me, and I watch her lips move as she whispers something so that only I can hear.
"I tried to save you from this hell, you didn't have to come." She scolds me.
"I wanted to come."
"Be careful what you wish for." She state before turning back to face the window.
