Chapter 77

Karleigh's POV

The small, furry dog comes bounding towards my feet as soon as Angelyse and I step into her small apartment.

"Hi Toto." I crouch down to stroke the dog's soft fur. Toto showers me in affection and I realize how much I've missed everything here in Atlanta.

"You can stay in Bethany's old room if you'd like." Angelyse tells me as she helps me drag in my bags. I raise an eyebrow at her.

"Bethany moved out?" I ask her, referring to her prior roomate.

With a slight chuckle, Ang nods. "Yeah, she moved out with her heavy metal boyfriend about a month after you left for Dallas."

I nod slowly, letting her words sink in as I follow behind Ang to Bethany's old room. We sit all my stuff down on the floor and Ang looks over at me with a smirk.

"What?" I ask her.

"I'm gonna go make some popcorn and snacks, you get into your pajamas because we're gonna watch Clueless.

I smile widely at her, her suggestion making me momentarily forget about Harry. "Just like old times." I murmur.

Memories of Angelyse and I watching Clueless pop into my head. Clueless has been our favorite movie since we were in seventh grade. We'd always beg our parents to stay over at each other's houses so we could watch it together and talk about boys.

That was before drugs, alcohol, and my father's death came into the picture.

I pad off to the bedroom, to change into my pajamas like she instructed. Sifting through my suitcase I tug out Harry's white t-shirt that he leant me the other night. Peeling off my sweatpants and hoodie, I replace them with Harry's shirt. His scent is still fresh in the fabric and I smile to myself.

The white shirt is thin, and I know my bra is visible through the material but I couldn't care less and I doubt Angelyse will care. The plunging neck line of the shirt is partly more concerning with the amount of cleavage it exposes, but I want nothing more than to stay in Harry's shirt. So I decide against changing, and pad out into the living room.

Ang is setting up t.v. trays with cans of Coke on them, along with sour gummy worms, bowls of popcorn, and homemade nachos that Angelyse always makes.

I smile at the scene in front of me and sit down cross legged on her sofa. Ang looks over at me, raising an eyebrow at my appearance.

"What the hell are you wearing?" She teasingly asks.

For some reason, her question doesn't affect me as jokingly as she intended it to. I stiffen and stare down at the white shirt that's loosely draped over my body.

"It just uh... Nothing really, I mean--I just grabbed, something. I don't know." I stammer, not looking her in the eyes. Her eyes seem to watch me more closely now, as she takes in the largeness of the shirt, how wrinkled it is, how it looks more like a dress than a shirt.

"Is that his shirt?" She asks softly, her eyes sympathetic.

"I don't need your pity Angelyse, sit the fuck down and let's watch the movie." I snap, not wanting to answer her question. She rolls her eyes, scoffing.

"Oh please, check your ego. Youe know I am not one to pity people, especially you." She retorts. "I'm just upset that the only person my best friend will ever probably love, isn't allowing her to love them. Which fucking sucks, because her love is rare and special."

Her words have a deeper meaning than she's letting on, and I know she's trying to lighten my mood by the use of the word 'special.'

"Glad we cleared that up." I snort and she bursts into laughter. Ang presses the play button on the remote, and stands to turn the lights off. The couch shifts as she sits back down beside me and both of our attention focuses in on the television screen to watch the movie.
