Chapter 97

Harry's POV

Her wide blue eyes resemble those of a child, as she watches the hot air ballon lift off of the ground in awe. Her eyes keep flickering between the ground and my face as if she wants to make sure I'm watching.

I love when she's all giddy like this, kind of like how she reacted to the aquarium. It brings out an innocent light in her that warms me. The balloon is quickly rising and we can see the tops of the surrounding trees. Karleigh gives me hand a gently squeeze and I look over at her awestruck face.

"Harry this is amazing." She smiles.

"I'm glad you like it." I say. "I was worried you wouldn't like it, because I know how you're afraid of heights." I add.

"I'm not afraid of heights." She stubbornly protests.

"Well I know how you get about airplanes." I smirk.

She glowers at me. "That's different."

"Then you won't mind me telling you that I got this private flight at a discount, due to the Amour Perdu's history of crash landings." I mutter in a sheepish tone.

"What?" She shrieks and her voice travels through the air around us. Her arms cling to me, and I die with laughter.

Her facial expression is priceless as she glares at me, and moves away from me in the small space.

"Don't be that way, I was joking." I apologize between laughs. Karleigh sticks her tongue out at me and I laugh harder.

"Earl, this aircraft is completely safe right?" Karleigh asks the pilot.

He smiles his gap toothed grin at her and nods. "Yes little lady, it most certainly is. It only has flight issues occasionally." He tries to reassure her. His answer wasn't exactly what she was looking for and her face pales as she moves to stand closer to me again, her small hands fisting my t-shirt tightly.

Karleigh digs through the lunchbox that's hung over her shoulder. She spots two water bottles and a medium sized bag of pretzels.

"Those were just snacks to hold us over until we go to your birthday dinner..." I trail off nervously, not knowing if she likes pretzels.

Karleigh closes the lunchbox and drapes one of her arms around my neck. "See you can be romantic." She murmurs softly, her lips brushing against mine.

"That's not romance, that's consideration for your hunger." I playfully argue.

Karleigh leans forward and bites my bottom lip, giggling. I lean backwards and she releases my lip. "We have an audience." I remind her of Earl.

"Let's give him some excitement." She growls in a sexy voice under her breath.

My lips part to respond, but Karleigh makes an awkward face. "What?" I ask her.

"I think my ears just popped." She says while moving her jaw around trying to make the odd feeling in her ears go away.

Earl speaks up from across the small box that's holding us in the air. "That happens sometimes, you may wanna take a swig of water."

Handing Karleigh the water bottle, she gulps down half of it, desperate for the feeling to disappear. She shoves the water bottle back into the lunchbox and leans against the edge of the balloon basket.
