Chapter 84
Karleigh's POV
The car creeps up the driveway with a slow stop. Aunt Jocelyn shifts around in her seat, her shoulder accidentally bumping the car horn.
The honk was loud and startling.
"Shit." I flinched and Aunt Jocelyn laughed.
"Oops, sorry."
I climbed out if the car and helped me grab my bags. Making our way up to the front door Aunt Jocelyn pulled out her house key. Annoyance fills me as I watch how slow her movements are.
Just as I'm about to complain she shoves the door open, stepping inside. I follow into the house behind her and squint at the darkness of the house. I can barely see in front of me.
"Why the hell is it so dark?" I blurt.
Before I get a response, a light is flicked in and tons of bodies spring up from around the room.
"WELCOME HOME KARLEIGH!!!" The large group screams in unison. Two of my bags tumble from my arms to the floor.
"Holy shit." I'm shocked. Literally everyone I know from Dallas is here. A few faces stick out in the crowd as I briefly glance around.
Scarlotte. Anne. Robin. Marcus. Niall. Even Zayn and Louis were here.
My eyes continued scanning for that one particular face, but my eyes never find him. Doing the best I can, I muster up the energy to feign a smile. The luggage I dropped to the floor, is shoved out of the way as numerous people bombard me with hugs.
I fight off my urge to shove them off of me, considering I'm not much of a hugging person. I try not to show how upset I truly am that Harry isn't here.
Aunt Jocelyn pops out from nearby smiling widely.
"Surprise." She smiles. "It's a welcome home party." She explains as if I'm fucking stupid and didn't realize it was a welcome home party when everybody jumped out yelling 'welcome home'.
Aunt Jocelyn wiggles her eyebrows during her explanation. "That's why I accidentally honked the horn, it was our signal."
"Sneaky." I smile as she pulls me into an embrace. Anne approaches me and Aunt Jocelyn and I smile warmly at her.
"You're Aunt and I came up with this last week after you called me." Anne admits with a sheepish smile. "I've been here decorating for an hour or so." She shyly smiles and I smile at her timid behavior, when usually she's so loud.
"It looks great, thank you two so much. Now I'm gonna go put these away and I'll be right back." I say, gesturing to my suitcases. I pad off down the hallway setting my bags in the doorway of my room and going back out to the party.
Scarlotte catches my attention from across the living room and I walk over towards her. She smiles when she notices me and I smile.
"Hey, welcome back." She smiles and opens her arms for a hug. I politely hug her for a short second. Much to my relief Todd isn't with her, otherwise I probably would've avoided her the entire time.
Scarlotte begins going into an animated story about how she let her fourteen year old brother drive her car and he nearly wrecked it. Her hands were motioning all over the place and I did my best to listen to her story, I laughed and commented when necessary but I was distracted. A deep blue mark was visible on her wrist and I couldn't stop gazing at it.
"What happened to your wrist?" I asked, cutting into her story abruptly. Her eyes shot down to her wrist and she self consciously moved her wrist behind her back, out of my sight.
