Chapter 63
Karleigh's POV
No no no no no. Whatever he's going to tell me I'm not ready to hear it. "No, don't tell me. I can't handle it." I blurt and stand to my feet. Harry shakes his head and feigns a weak smile.
"You can handle it, you're one of the strongest people I know." His voice cracks and I step towards him. His green eyes won't meet mine, but I'm desperate for them. I'm desperate for the reassurance he can give me with just one look, but he won't look at me right now.
"I'm sorry I lied to you about being an intern at the hospital." He apologizes, and I drop to my knees in front of his chair and grab his hand.
"Look at me." I beg him.
"Why?" He sounds so ashamed of himself.
"Because you're eyes help me, they're tranquilizing." I plead and he closes his eyes for a moment before looking down at me. The usual hazel color of his eyes are now a mystic green, and his eyes are glossed over.
Panic is building in my chest, I'm fighting back a scream, or maybe sobs, or both.
"Well my arm had been hurting pretty bad, so I went in for a regular check up. When I mentioned the pain in my arm to my doctor, he seemed to take notice of it and asked me to come back. When I came back in, I did what's called a PET scan, which is this cool machine that takes like 3-D x-rays of my bones, basically." He sighs and looks away from me.
It's getting harder to breathe, the room is getting smaller. All I can see is Harry, but reality is trying to take him away. "Oh my god." I gasp out of my failing lungs. I feel very lightheaded as if I could faint at any given moment. My grip on Harry's hands tighten, and he looks back at me.
When he looks at me, his eyes are very distant, as if he isn't really seeing me. I bite down on the inside of my cheek to prevent myself from crying.
"The PET scan results weren't so great they found traces of osteosarcoma in my arm, they've been trying to treat it while it's still early, but it could spread." His voice breaks on the last word.
I climb onto his lap and press my face against his neck so he can't see the tears building in my eyes. His heart is hammering and I can hear it, with my ears so close to his pulse. My lips press against his neck and he lets out a sigh of relief.
"You don't have to love me. This may not get better, it could get worse." He tells me, monotonously. I pull back to look at his face.
His eyes avoid mine, but I gently grab his face and force him to look at me. "I can't help that I love you, but this doesn't change anything." I promise his. He opens his mouth to speak but I fiercely crash my lips to his.
Without hesitating, he wraps his arms tightly around me and kisses me back with equal intensity.
My hips grind down against his lap agonizingly slow. He groans into our kiss at my movements, and I can feel his bulge growing. Whimpers leave my lips as I feel his bulge against me, through my thin underwear. Harry stands from the chair, keeping me in his arms and he takes us to the couch.
Harry's hands lifts his green t-shirt off of me, for him to find that I'm still not wearing a bra. His pupils dialate as he takes in my body. A smirk grows on his face as he spots my secret tattoo hidden on the upper part of my ribcage, near my armpit.
"I thought you said you had no tattoos?" He reminds me of what I said to Zayn.
"What I said was Not really," I correct him. "This one's a secret, keep it between you and me." I wink at him and he presses his lips against mine again. Sucking and nipping, he trails his mouth down my neck.
