Chapter 98
Karleigh's POV
Aunt Jocelyn pulls into her familiar driveway that I haven't seen in a while. Two cars pull in behind her and I know it's Harry and my Mom.
My movements are slow as I get out of Aunt Jocelyn's car. Harry approaches me and hands me a bag, I glance down at the bag that's being held in his outstretched hand. Sure enough it's the overnight bag that I packed for last night when I slept at his apartment.
"Thanks." I mumble and follow the path up to the front door.
I drop the overnight bag onto the floor of my bedroom and pad directly into the living room. There's a single-seat couch that I head straight towards and plop down, allowing the fluffy cushions to comfort me.
Harry approaches and looks down at me. "Can I sit with you?" He softly asks.
"It's a one seater couch Harry." I murmur. He reaches down, hooking his hands under my arms and lifting me from the couch. A small squeak leaves my lips and Harry stands me up onto my feet, and takes the seat that I was previously seated on.
My mouth parts to voice my annoyance, but Harry's arms wrap around my waist and pulls me down onto his lap. As much as I want to be annoyed, I find comfort in Harry's gesture and keep my mouth shut.
Mom and Bennett enter the living room and sit down on the long couch adjacent to the one Harry and I are lounging on. Not wanting to make eye contact with my pest of a mother, I snuggle my nose into Harry's neck.
"Karleigh, how's college?" Mom asks.
"Wonderful." I say, only for my words to be mumbled into Harry's neck.
"What was that?" She asks.
I lean away from Harry and glare at her. "I said, wonderful." I hiss between my teeth.
Her shallow blue eyes drop from my face and I notice Bennett give her hand a reassuring squeeze, I fight the urge to puke. Harry presses his lips lightly against my shoulder blade, reminding me of his presence. Aunt Jocelyn comes into the living room with a giddy expression on her face.
"Do you guys wanna watch a movie?" She smiles.
"I'd rather not." I blurt
"Sure." Harry says.
"Of course." Stupid Bennett answers and I glare at him.
"Absolutely." Mom nearly shouts.
We all speak our answers at the same time and Aunt Jocelyn almost looks overwhelmed. Her eyes avoid mine as she slides the movie into the DVD player, and I release a loud groan.
After five minutes of movie voting, which I refused to participate in, everyone had decided on us watching Avatar. Everyone had come to an unanimous agreement that they'd never seen the movie.
Aunt Jocelyn flicks the lights off and climbs onto the couch beside Mom and Bennett. I press my body against Harry's and lay my head on his chest, his arms snaking around me and giving me a sense of security.
Intense music streams from the speakers and I try to focus on the t.v. screen, but I've never been into sci-fi movies. As the movie plays on, my eyelids become heavier and heavier, before they finally flutter closed.
Internally arguing with my drowsiness, I fling my eyes open fighting to stay awake and watch the movie. Praying that no one had caught me sleeping, I continue on watching the movie.
**
A loud boom jolts me awake and I realize with a frown that I had slipped into unconsciousness again. My eyes flicker over to Mom, Bennett and Aunt Jocelyn to see that their eyes are still fixed on the movie and no one had noticed my unwilling sleep.
