Chapter 15

Harry's POV

Warmth rushes through me as my lips press against hers. Her movements are painfully slow, and passionate, it's torturous. I've been waiting for this moment since the last time she kissed me. To feel her lips move against mine...

Karleigh's arm laces around the back of my neck and she scoots herself closer to me as we kiss. The tip of my tongue traces her upper lip and she lets out a barely audible whine, that sends a shiver through my entire body.

Just friends. Just friends. Just friends.

Her old words echo through my head and confusion builds in my mind. If she just wants to be friends, what are we doing right now? Why is she kissing me? Well, technically I kissed her. Was I imagining her moving closer to me? This is my fault, I asked her to sleep in my bed. She's gonna regret kissing me, and she won't want to spend time with me anymore.

Oh god.

Her lips are smooth against mine and her mouth tastes like bittersweet lemons. It's exquisite, really. This is going to be dreadful. I pull away from Karleigh, disrupting our kiss and her breaths come out in short pants.

"Karleigh...what are we doing?" I whisper. Her blue eyes flash with an emotion I can't interpret, and she clears her throat. Her hand moves away from my neck.

"I don't, know." She sounds offended and I instantly know she is regretting kissing me.

"I-I'm sorry." I stutter.

"Don't apologize, um, this was an bad idea. I should go."

Before her words can register in my mind, she's standing from my bed and stepping back into her shorts. I can't find words, to form a coherent sentence as I watch her button her shorts and put her shoes back on. "Karleigh," I start to say, but she rushes out of my bedroom door and I jump up out of my bed to stop her. She's bounding down the stairs, obviously trying to escape my apartment.

"Karleigh! Dammit!" I call out again, barely catching up to her. She reaches the front door and her hands fumble with the lock. Just as she manages to unlock the door I grab ahold of her wrist. "Karleigh!" I yell, unintentionally and she spins on her heels to glare at me, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Jesus, Harry!! What?" She screams equally as loud. I'm taken aback by her watery eyes, and I nearly forget everything I need to say.

"Why are you upset?" My voice has lowered a considerably.

"Because. We kissed, and you...you..." She's upset, her voice is shaky and fragile.

"I said I'm sorry, it was my fault."

"I thought you liked me?" She asks, and I stare blankly at her unsure how to respond. "God, I'm so stupid." She mumbles as she tries to open the door again to leave.

I don't stop her, I watch her rush out of my apartment and practically run to her car.

"I thought you said you only wanted to be friends? You're sending me mixed signals Karls!" I shout to her as she runs away from me. She freezes at my use of her nickname, but she doesn't turn around.

"I'm sorry, okay? I just didn't want you to do something you'd regret, and you said you only wanted us to be friends."

She turns around this time. Her mouth opens and closes three time before she finally speaks.

"I do, I did, just want to be friends. I don't know what I want anymore!" She screams and grips the roots of her hair in her fists.

"What are you so afraid of?" I ask her. "I'm not afraid of anything, you don't fucking know me." She defends and I take a step closer to her.

"Karleigh, come inside." I insist, and I can see my words wearing thin on her heart.

Her head shakes no to my request, and she opens her mouth to confirm her refusal. "No." She barely answers.

"Karleigh. Come, inside." My voice is slower and more commanding. Karleigh stares at me for a second, running her fingers through her hair as she concentrates on the ground. I have no idea what's running through her mind right now, but she glances up at me and whispers "okay."

Her steps are slow and skeptical but she continues her way towards me. When she is within my reach, I wrap my arm around her waist and shut the door behind her, locking it. Karleigh's eyes are avoiding mine, my hand cups her chin to guide her eyes to mine.

"Harry.." She says softly, but I cut her off by pressing my lips forcefully against hers. A gasp escapes her mouth and relief flows through me at the contact of her skin. She looses her footing slightly and stumbles backwards, her back pressing against the door.

I move one of my hands to rest on her waist, and the other is pressed against the door behind Karleigh's head. Her teeth graze my bottom lip and a groan rumbles from the back of my throat.

"Let's go upstairs." I tell her, and she nods as she follows behind me to my room.
